Word

by Margaret Jeanette

Sarah Carson was on top of the world. She was the top real estate person in town and now she had just closed the deal on a million and a half dollar estate. It had been listed with two other realtor's before being listed through her. They couldn't find a buyer and she had. Her commission would be great. To celebrate the sale she decided to take her husband out to lunch.

She entered the reception area where his office was and saw that his door was partially open. When she got where she could see him she saw his secretary rubbing his shoulders and saw that she was talking. Then she saw him say something and then to her surprise she saw his secretary give him a big kiss on his lips. She turned and saw Edith Strong's door open. She knocked on Edith's door and when Edith said come in entered.

Sarah said, "Hi Edith, I thought maybe we could have lunch together today. I know it's short notice but I was just wondering."

Edith agreed and they left. Sarah drove to one of the fancier restaurants in town. Edith said, "We are really going fancy today aren't we?"

Sarah replied, "Lunch is on me. I just had a really, really good sale. But the reason I asked you is I want to ask you a very delicate question."

They entered and were seated in a secluded corner. They ordered and Edith asked , "Now what's the delicate question?"

Sarah replied, "I know you are a good judge and handler of people. A friend of mine thinks her husband may be having an affair with his secretary and don't know what to do about it. Is there anything you can think of to make a man end an affair?"

Edith sat quietly for a minute then said, "The best way to stop a man from straying is to get him in panties. Maybe panties and a bra. A man in panties and a bra isn't likely to drop his pants in front of anyone. Depending on the man and I know a couple of men who wouldn't let that stop them then full feminization would be in order. Now tell me, you know I love gossip. Is it anyone I know?"

Sarah answered, "I can't tell you who it is, not now maybe later."

Edith accepted that and they finished their lunch talking about various subjects. Sarah dropped Edith off at her office and went to her office to make sure the girls were finishing up with the days closing and getting everything filed correctly. She left the office early in the afternoon.

Dan Carson pulled into the driveway and was happy to see Sarah's car there. He went into the house and saw his wife sitting at the table. He walked over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He asked her how her closing went. She told him it went OK.

Dan said, "This was your biggest deal to date. I thought you would be more enthusiastic about it. What's the matter?"

Sarah said, "I was all on fire about it. So much so I was going to take you to lunch to celebrate. Then I saw you and Stacy, your secretary playing your games and decided against it and took Edith instead of you."

Dan asked, "What games?"

Sarah said, "You know the little back rub and the kissing like two school kids!"

Dan replied, "Listen, that was something that just happened. She told me her father was sick. Remember a couple of months ago I told you he had a heart attack and they did surgery on him. Well, he sick again and the doctor said they might have to do another surgery on him this week. Stacy asked me for the rest of this week and next week off. When I said she should be there for her dad and that she could have off she gave me a kiss. It was nothing, I didn't expect it."

Sarah said, "I don't believe you. I think you are having a affair with her."

Dan said, "I give you my word, I am NOT having an affair. I couldn't do that to you."

Sarah said, "I know you value your word but I find it hard to believe. If you aren't having an affair will you give me your word you'll wear whatever I tell you. If you do, then maybe I'll believe your word."

Dan said, "Yes. I don't know what you have in mind but I wear whatever you say until you release me and believe in my word again."

Sarah said, "Good! Here's your new under clothes. Go to the bedroom and put them on. Put the extras in your underwear drawer."

Dan took the bag and went to the bedroom. He heard Sarah on her way to the bathroom. She said, "When you have them on wait for me to get the rest of your new clothes."

Dan reached into the bag and pulled out some of the clothes. He couldn't believe it. They were women's panties and bra's and something that looked like a lacy T-shirt. He was just standing there when Sarah came in.

"You gave your word that you would wear what ever I said, so get changed or isn't your word worth anything."

Dan replied, "I honor my word, but what are you trying to prove by having me wear this stuff?"

Sarah responded, "I have been told a man wouldn't likely to drop his pants for a woman if he was wearing woman's underwear. If you want me to believe your word you'll wear it and whatever else I tell you . What do you say, you going to wear it or not? If not, you can leave now. Maybe you can go with Stacy and have a sex-filled vacation with her."

Dan said, "Come on get serious. I love you and I have never been unfaithful to you."

Sarah said, "I might believe that when I see you wearing that stuff. Now are you going to put it on?"

Dan resigning himself to everything agreed and started to put the panties and bra on. When he had them on Sarah stopped him and handed him a slip to put on. He put it on then she handed him a blouse to put on. When he had that on she gave him a skirt. Then she told him to put on a pair of her heels. They only had a two-inch heel so he could walk with out any great discomfort and seemingly a bit ease.

As they were eating supper Dan asked, "How long is this going to take, me having to wear these clothes?"

Sarah replied, "I really don't know. I guess whenever I feel you are telling the truth. I love you and won't intentionally hurt you . I may humiliate you a bit but I will try to keep it to a minimum."

Dan said, "I appreciate that but you don't expect me to go to work like this do you?"

Sarah answered, "You will wear the panties, bra and camisole. You can wear whatever you want over it, unless I tell you different. OK?"

Dan said, "OK, if that's what it takes for you to believe me, I'll do it!"

Sarah thought Dan looked kind of cute in the white lacy blouse and straight black skirt. They watched some TV mostly in silence until it was time to go to bed. Sarah handed him a floor length nylon night gown to wear saying it matched his panties. He put it on and crawled into bed.

When he awoke the next morning he thought it was a bad dream but as soon as he stood to head for the bathroom he knew it wasn't a dream. He shaved and did his morning routine then went to his dresser. He looked at he panties and chose a black pair and a black bra. When he had them on he slipped the black camisole over his head. It was all lace on the upper part and nylon below. He put on his shirt just as Sarah was rising.

Sarah said, "Good Morning. You know pantyhose will go with your other undies better than your socks. Get a pair of them out of my drawer. Be careful putting them on so you don't put a run in them."

Dan got the pantyhose and put them on. He reached for his socks but Sarah told him he didn't need them. He shrugged and put his pants on. When he put his suit coat on he felt no one could see anything out of the ordinary.

When he got to work he went straight to his office and closed the door. He was uncomfortable in the bra but he managed to do his job. At eleven Edith Strong called him on the phone and told him the air conditioner just broke and wouldn't be fixed until tomorrow. She reminded him that they were meeting at 1:30. He said he'd see her then and hung up. By eleven thirty it was getting warm in the office. He took his coat off and continued working. He was so engrossed in his work that he suddenly realized it was five minutes until his meeting with Mrs. Strong. He quickly went to the bathroom. On the way out he saw that his underwear was visible under his shirt. He made it back to his office without anyone seeing him. He put on his suit coat and headed for Mrs. Strong's office.

Mrs. Strong told him to have a seat then said, "I just want to go over where we are at. We may be able to expand and I want to do it right. It's hot in here, take your suit coat off and get comfortable."

Dan said, "That's OK. I'm comfortable enough ."

Edith looked at him more closely and saw enough to know why he wouldn't take the coat off. She said, "I was going to talk to you about expanding but I think we better talk about something else."

Dan said, "Whatever. What do you want to talk about."

Edith said, "Dan, I can see what you are wearing under your shirt. Tell me about it and I want the truth and all of it."

Dan explained about everything that had happened and how he gave his word to Sarah and what she made him do to prove his word.

Edith said, "Sarah is a very good friend of mine and I'll never tell her of anything we talk about. Have you ever been unfaithful to her?"

Dan said, "No, I never ever even thought about it."

Edith said, "I believe you. You have my sympathies. If there is anything you want me to do to try to convince her you are faithful let me know."

Dan said, "I can't think of anything. I really appreciate your support."

Edith said, "I support all of my employees. I think that is why we are so successful in what we do."

Dan returned to his office and Edith started thinking. She liked both Dan and Sarah and didn't want to interfere in their marriage. It bothered her then she picked up the phone and called Sarah's cell phone. Sarah answered on the second ring.

Edith said, "Sarah, do you have a minute to talk?"

Sarah said, "Sure, what's up?"

Edith said, "Well I have something to show you that I think you will be mighty interested in. I will only tell you that it concerns Dan. When can we get together?"

Sarah said, "Why don't you come for dinner tonight. Say at six and we'll eat right away."

Edith said, "That sounds good to me, I'll see you at six."

Dan got home at five and Sarah told him to go change into the clothes on the bed. He went into the bedroom and saw what he was supposed to put on. It was a black slip and an ivory blouse with lots of lace, He put them on then picked up the pastel green skirt and put it on he put on the matching jacket and noticed the scarf , necklace, clip-on earrings and bracelet. He put it all on and went back into the living room.

He said, "This is awful formal isn't it? Are we in for a special occasion?"

Sarah said, "I picked up three steaks for you to make on the grill. Stick three good sized potatoes in the oven to bake and make three salads. We are having company tonight for supper."

Dan asked, "Can I go change?"

Sarah said no and Dan immediately said, "You said you wouldn't humiliate me, didn't you?"

Sarah said, "I said I wouldn't humiliate you much. I didn't say I wouldn't humiliate you a little. Now go put an apron on and get to work. I want supper at 6:15. There's an apron in the pantry you can wear."

Dan went to the pantry and grabbed the apron. It was snow white and had lots of lace trim. A feminine masterpiece he thought to himself. He picked the three biggest potatoes and started them in the oven. He looked at the steaks in the refrigerator and saw Sarah had gotten T-Bones. They looked good. He prepared his best salad with lettuce torn not cut and grated carrots. He mixed his famous dressing for the salads. He then went out and started the grill. The steaks would take about ten minutes. He knew he was a master at grilling steaks,

He went inside and made some small talk to Sarah. At exactly six the doorbell rang. Sarah told Dan to answer it. Dan opened the door and his jaw fell. Standing there was Edith Strong. Catching his composure he invited her in.Edith said, "You look lovely, Dan. That green looks good on you." Then spotting Sarah she said, "That's a lovely husband you have. What are we having for supper, I'm starved."

Sarah answered, "We are having steaks, baked potato and salad with Dan's own recipe for the dressing. I think you'll like it, the dressing I mean."

Dan excused himself and went to grill the steaks. When they were started he quickly went into the house and put the salads on the table with the bowl of his dressing. He then went out to turn the steaks. He went back in and got the potatoes out of the oven and put them on the plates. He grabbed the sour cream out of the refrigerator and put it on the table. Then he went out to check the steaks. They were perfect so he put them on a platter and took them in and put them on the table. Then he called the ladies for supper. They came into the dining area just as he was taking off his apron.

Edith said, 'That's a very pretty apron. Where did you get it, Dan?"

Dan answered, "I didn't get it, Sarah did. You'll have to ask her."

During supper they made small chit-chat. Edith raved about the meal, especially Dan's salad dressing, telling him she wanted him to make some for her to use at home. Dan blushed at the compliment.

After supper Sarah said, "Dan, put your apron back on and hand wash the dishes and clean up. Edith and I have some talking to do."

They left for the living room and Dan muttered under his breath that he was nothing more than a maid. The girls were in the living room.

Edith started, "Sarah, I don't like to interfere in anyone's marriage but there is something I feel I have to tell you. I talked to Dan this afternoon and he told me he has always been faithful to you. Now before I continue, will you promise you'll make Dan wear that outfit he has on to work tomorrow? It would mean so much to me."

Sarah said, "I told Dan I wouldn't humiliate him too much, I don't know."

Edith said, "It isn't to humiliate him. I intend to use it as an employee lesson. I assure you I don't want to hurt Dan in any way. I think the world of him."

Sarah said with a giggle, "I guess I could tell him to wear it. I would love to see him there though."

Edith said, "Good that's taken care of. Now when you asked me yesterday I had no idea you were talking about yourself and Dan. What Dan told you about Stacy is true. They aren't having an affair. I can prove that what you saw yesterday was just something that happened that was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I have something I want you to read."

She handed Sarah a piece of paper. It read-

Dear Mrs. Strong,

As you know my father had a heart attack and surgery a couple of months ago. I used my vacation to be with him and Mom. My vacation is all used up for this year. Now my Mom called and said Dad is very sick and the doctor wants to operate. I wanted to be there with them when this happens so I asked Mr. Carson for the rest of this week and next week off. He gave me permission to have off. I was so worried about asking him it took me all morning just to getup the nerve. I rubbed his shoulders while I asked (This is something my mother told me about when asking a man for something). He was so nice about it. I gave him a thank you kiss but I think he deserves the "Employee of the Month" award. He is so kind and considerate that he is the one I rated my fiancé with to make sure I would be spending the rest of my life with. So I ask, please consider him for the "Employee of the Month".

Stacy Kincaid

Sarah read the letter and got tears in her eyes and said, "How could I have mistrusted him so? I'm so sorry."

Edith handed her a tissue and said, "Dan loves you. I know he'll understand. He is more flexible than you think. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body and I think he doesn't even know what revenge is. I just had to make you aware of what I knew because I have known you too long and too well not to do this. I like both of you , you are both special to me. Now. Don't let Dan know what we talked about, OK?" Tomorrow we have a full staff meeting at nine. You are welcome to attend. If you come be at my office a little before nine. You'll get a chance to see how I handle my employees."

Sarah said, "I'll be there. I wouldn't miss it for anything."

Edith said she had to go and got up and went into the kitchen. She said to Dan, "Dan, I have to leave now. Thanks for the delicious meal. Don't worry everything will work out. Hang in there."

Dan said thanks and she left. He finished up the clean-up and went into the living room. He asked Sarah what they talked about.

Sarah said, "Oh, we talked about woman things. She did mention that she thinks the world of you but I think she is uncomfortable talking about someone when they aren't there. She did say it would be OK to wear that outfit to work tomorrow. So lay it out careful when you take it off so it don't get wrinkles."

Dan said aghast, "You saying I am to wear this to work!"

Sarah said calmly, "Dan you gave your word you'd wear what I said and I'm telling you to wear it. Edith will be expecting you wearing it. It really does look good on you."

Dan asked, "When is this going to end. If you don't trust me any more than that there is something wrong. I told you I have never thought about being unfaithful to you and gave you my word. Why can't you believe me?"

Sarah said, "If you wear that tomorrow I'll know your word is gospel. It is more important to you than I ever realized. Then I'm going to have to admit you were telling me the truth and I made a mistake not believing you."

Dan grumbled something Sarah didn't understand and got up and went to the bathroom. When he didn't return for quite awhile Sarah assumed he was on his computer. He came in the bedroom at his regular bedtime and carefully took the outfit off and laid it on a bedroom chair. Sarah smiled to herself as he put the same nightgown on he had worn the previous night.

The next morning Dan was up earlier than usual. Sarah came into the kitchen just as Dan was finishing a cup of coffee. He said, "I am going to g on early today. I want to get some work done right away. See you tonight."

Sarah wished him a good day and watched as he headed out the door in the green outfit. He even had all the jewelry on which surprised her. She went to get ready so she could get to Edith's office in plenty of time.

Dan typed out the reports on his computer for the day's staff meeting. He knew Mrs. Strong got in before the rest of the employees and wanted to get the reports to her. They were done printing when he heard Mrs. Strong come in. He headed to her office. He handed her the reports. She looked at them and told him very good.

Dan said, "Maybe you can read them at the meeting."

Edith said, "You will be there won't you? You can read them."

Dan said, "I hoping you would read them then I wouldn't have to be there.."

Edith said, "Nonsense, you are part of this company and everyone, yourself included should be there. I'll see you at nine."

Dan went back to his office dejected. He sat at his desk and pondered what was going to happen. He got lost in his thoughts and before he knew it was nine. It took him a couple of minutes to gather his courage and go to the staff room. He entered and without looking around knew everybody else was there.

Edith started, "The past few days I have been reviewing where we are at right now. I have come to the conclusion that we must expand our services and our company. Some of you I feel are overworked so I am going to hire some kelp for those who I feel need it. I am thinking of hiring probably six or seven people. We are a good group and I intend to hire quality employees.

Now you ask what makes a quality employee. There are many different things but one of the most important is to be a person of your word. We have one person in this room who is showing he is a man of his word today. Dan, please stand up!"

Dan was stunned. He couldn't believe what Mrs. Strong was saying. She repeated the request for him to stand. Slowly he stood. Mrs. Strong said, "Take a good long look at what a man will do to show he means his word. He gave his word to his wife that he would wear whatever she said and she told him to wear that today. Now, that is a man of his word. Let it be a lesson for all of us. Keeping your word isn't always pleasant."

Silence filled the room for a couple of minutes then Mrs. Strong continued, "Now for awarding the Employee of the Month award. I received a very elegantly written letter that asked that one person be named for this award. After reading the letter I would feel bad if I didn't respect this employees request. So this month's Employee of the Month award goes to Dan Carson."

There was a round of applause then Mrs. Strong continued, "I had considered Dan before but never really knew until just lately what an asset he is to this company. I told you we were going to expand and we are getting to the size that I feel I must pick an executive vice president. I have looked both inside and outside of this company and after a lot of soul searching and research have picked someone. That someone is Dan Carson. Dan you know this includes a sizable raise. I picked Dan because of his many talents and because I feel he will do the best job for us. That is all I have for now. Does anyone else here have anything to say?"

A voice from the corner asked, "Can a non-employee say something?"

Edith turned to Sarah and said, "Go ahead, speak your heart."

Sarah advanced to the other end of the table from where Dan sat and took Edith's place. She stood silent for a minute then started, "What you are looking at is a jealous wife. I was so jealous I didn't look at he truth. I am truly sorry for that. I now know my husbands word is gospel and I promise never to question it again. They say true love continues to grow. I can tell you it must be true love because my love has grown so much in the last couple of days. All I have to ask is 'Dan, can you forgive me'?"

Dan stood up and moved around the table until he was standing in front of his wife. Without a word he took her in his arms and gave her a passionate kiss, She returned the kiss and they both had tears in their eyes.

Edith adjourned the meeting and waited until the couple separated then said, "Dan I owe you an apology. Sarah was ready to forgive you last night after I talked to her but I made her promise to send you to work like that."

Dan said, "That's OK. I think that's the most beautiful speech I have ever heard Sarah make, except for the 'I do"s at our wedding, of course."

Edith said, "Why don't you two go somewhere private and renew your love. Dan you can have the rest of the week off with pay of course."

They all laughed and Dan and Sarah headed home so he could get out of those clothes.
