Traffic

by Jennifer White

Bill was on his way to work in the morning. He honked his horn, but the stupid broad in front of him wouldn't stay in one lane. She was driving a monster SUV, and was acting like she was going to change lanes. She drifted over the line, then back, then over, then back again.

First she had pulled out, and didn't speed up quickly. She was going one mile under the speed limit. What an idiot! What was wrong with her? Why the hell would anyone want to drive slow like that? He wanted to blast past her, but her stupid SUV was too wide, and he was afraid that she'd hit him. He laid on the horn.

"You stupid broad!" he yelled through his open window as he finally got around her. He held his finger up and glared at her as he flew past. As soon as he was in front, he cut over sharply, making her hit the breaks.

"Ha, serves you right" he though as he laid on the gas. But then he had a better idea. He took his foot off, and coasted. And coasted. He let his car slow down to well under the speed limit. Traffic in the other lane flew by. Soon, she caught up to him. He let his car go slower. Down to 25. Then 10. Then 5.

She couldn't get around him because traffic in the left lane was flying by at 45 miles per hour. He went even slower still. At last, she was able to move into the left lane. At that moment, he floored it, and took off. That would show her! Teach her to drive like a maniac and inconvenience him.

When Bill got home from work, he was surprised to find that a beautiful young woman was at his house, standing by the door.

"Can I help you?" he said.

"Yes. I need to talk to you. Let's go inside."

Whoa! She was knockout, and she wanted to talk to him, inside? Sure thing! He let her in, and offered her a drink. She declined, but he brought out a beer for himself, and sat on the love seat, across from the couch where she sat.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"I have been called many names" she said. "Over the past few hundred years, I have been called a 'witch', 'angel', 'genie', and many other names. My real name is unpronounceable in your human tongue, but you may call me Karana."

This was too strange. Maybe he made a mistake. She was clearly deranged. But she was one hot chick. He'd take advantage of her, then dump her and run. Who would believe a psycho like this if she ever said anything?

"That's very interesting Karana" he said patronizingly.

"You did a very bad thing today" she said, ignoring his insulting tone.

"Ooh, spank me!" he thought, but at least had the tact to be quiet.

"You drove like a madman, endangering that woman's life, and those of her children. You insulted her and all womankind with your thoughts and your deeds."

"How do you know about that?" he said, his face turning red. "But I didn't do anything wrong. It was all her fault."

"Was it? Really?"

"Yes! She cut me off. She drove slow. She wouldn't let me pass."

"She was being safe. She wasn't trying to stop you."

"Yes she was!"

"That depends on your point of view. Which is why I am here. To show you *her* point of view."

"What?" said Bill, but Karana waved her hands, and he froze as everything became fuzzy. He tingled all over. He felt a floating sensation, and was shocked to look down and see his body on the couch, still holding the beer can in one hand. Karana's spirit was holding his hand. He felt electric shocks from the power inside her.

Bill and Karana's spirits rose out of the house, flew through the air across town at an incredible speed, and moved in towards another house.

"This is the house of the woman you tried to run off the road today. Her name is Jessica Allen. She has three children. Kelly is 4, Jeffrey is 2 and a half, and Brandi is just two months old."

"So?"

"You had better get to know them, because you are going to join the family."

"What do you mean?"

"Today, you are going to be Jessica Allen. You are going to live her life for a day, so that you understand what she goes through. When evening comes, as the full moon rises, just go outside, stare at the moon and call my name. I will come to change things back. But now, you are becoming *her*. *You* are Jessica Allen. Her spirit will go with me to what you would call paradise, so she can rest for a day."

"No" said Bill weakly.

"You will know what she knows, so you can find your way through the day. Goodbye Jessica, I will see you tomorrow."

* * *

"No!" said Jessica, shocked that the sound coming out of her mouth was a *woman's* voice. How was that possible? She ran to a mirror and gasped.

Inside her body, Bill's spirit now dwelt. He *was* her. How could the image staring back from the mirror not be him? He wasn't himself! He was a woman now! He stared at the image in the mirror.

She touched her unfamiliar face, with its alien features. The face was pretty, but not movie star glamorous. The eyes were warm and dark brown. The eyelashes were neatly plucked, and mascara made the eyelashes stand out. She couldn't stop staring at her own eyes.

The skin was so soft! Not rough with the stubble of shaving. The lips were full and moist looking. The chin, the cheekbones, everything was different! The long brown curly hair was parted at the side, and pulled across her face, hiding part of the right side. Excitement grew within her as she realized that she *wanted* the girl in the mirror. But Bill couldn't flirt with her, he *was* her.

Jessica moved her hands down further, and felt the fullness of her breasts. They were large, ripe and firm, seemingly trying to burst out of her blouse. They were full of milk, and the baby's cry caused a strange sensation at the nipple.

"I'm lactating" thought Jessica, her inner knowledge accessible in Bill's mind. She stopped her explorations as the cry of the infant brought her nurturing instincts to the fore. She went to the crib, held up the baby, and rocked it. It continued to cry, and she knew it was hungry.

She undid the buttons, and unfastened the strap of the nursing bra, exposing her left nipple. Little Brandi eagerly put her mouth around it, and started suckling.

Bill spirit was still in shock from suddenly awakening in a female body. But now, Bill was a nursing mother! What a feeling! As a man, he had never had urges for nurturing. He had never selflessly given to another living creature. But now, he was a she, and she was nursing a baby! She was feeding her baby, using nothing but her own body. Her breasts were serving their primary function: to create milk for her baby. Bill had looked at breasts as 'things', meant to attract a man. But now as Jessica, she gained a whole new appreciation for them.

Jessica started to cry tears of joy! It was an epiphany. It was as if Bill suddenly accepted his new femininity. She smiled, dried the tears, and put Brandi back in her crib to sleep.

But being a mother of three young children is not all fun and games. It took work to feed the other two and herself. Then to clean the house. And change the baby's diaper. And make the two little ones stop fighting, and take their baths. She had to read them three bedtime stories before they calmed down.

Once they were in bed, she had to pay some bills, balance the checkbook, check on the baby, pack her lunch for tomorrow, and fold the laundry. Exhausted, she checked on Brandi one last time, gave the children all goodnight kisses, and went to her bedroom.

She took off her makeup, brushed her long hair, put the dirty clothes into the hamper, picked out her clothes for the next day, brushed her teeth, put on her night cream, took off her tennis bracelet and cleaned it, hand washed her bra, hung it up to dry, then put on her nightie.

She was too wound up, so she watched TV for half an hour before finally drifting off to sleep.

The cry of Brandi woke her up, so she had to go change her, and rock her back to sleep. She went back to bed herself, and it felt like moments later that the alarm went off.

Jessica took a quick shower, washed her hair, and shaved her legs which were getting too stubbly. Then she woke the children up. She helped them dress, gave them cereal and fruit along with juice for breakfast, then went to blow-dry her hair. Brandi wasn't interested in being fed, so that would have to wait for later. She got dressed, put on her foundation, blush, and mascara.

She was running late, so the lipstick would have to wait. She put it into her purse, and ran downstairs. She forgot her shoes, so she had to go back up again to find them. Kelly liked to play with them, and they turned up under her little pink bed. Jessica shook her head and laughed. Only four years old, and she already had a thing for cute shoes.

She got everyone ready, piled them into the SUV, and checked that everything was ready. She had to get Brandi into the car seat, and get two little squirming fighting children to buckle up. And she had to retie Jeffrey's shoelaces. She grabbed her lunch and her purse, dug out her keys, and started up the car. The two little ones had to get to daycare, and Kelly was in preschool. They were running late, so she headed to the school first.

As she drove down the road, Brandi started to cry. *Now* she wanted to be fed. Jessica half thought of doing it as she drove, but she remembered a news story she had read about a woman doing that and getting a ticket! She would have to find a spot to pull over. She didn't feel comfortable feeding Brandi in front of Jeffrey and Kelly, but she had no choice. She found a secluded spot, and fed Brandi. After cleaning her up, she pulled out. Traffic was heavy, and she felt bad that the car in back of her had to hit the breaks, but there was a long line, and the traffic wasn't going to clear any time soon. It was the best she could do.

She looked in the rearview mirror, and realized that she had forgotten to put her lipstick on. She drove with her knees as she applied it to her lips. She kept the speed slower as she did this, to be safe for the children. Her friend Marge had been in an accident, and her sedan was totaled. After seeing the mangled wreck, Jessica had traded in her Civc for an SUV, to be safer for the children. She didn't feel comfortable driving a little car with her precious children inside.

Jessica realized that she had forgotten to eat anything herself, so she pulled a granola bar out of her purse, driving with her knees again as she dug in the bag. She finally found one at the bottom. She would have to move to a smaller purse one of these days. But with the kids, you needed to carry so much!

She unwrapped it, but put her hands back on the wheel. Some crazy man flew past her at a high rate of speed, and gave her the finger. She felt so upset, but didn't want to show any negative emotions in front of the children. The guy then had the nerve to cut her off, causing her to hit the brakes. She instinctively put her right arm out to hold Jeffrey in place, even though he was wearing his seat belt. It was just mother's instinct.

She finally turned into the parking lot for the school, and dropped off Kelly. After she was safely inside, she drove on to the daycare. It was heartbreaking for her every day to drop off the kids. She wished she could be a stay at home mother, but being single, she had to work. So she reluctantly trusted the most important things in her life to strangers, and paid them money for it! How backwards the world was sometimes.

Finally, she got to work, only fifteen minutes late.

* * *

Inside Jessica, Bill's head was spinning. How did that woman do this every day? She had done so much, and it was only nine in the morning! His spirit felt tired, yet there was work to do. Jessica set to it, and did what was necessary to get the job done.

After a quick lunch with the girls, she stopped by the daycare to breast feed Brandi, then returned to work. She kept at it until it was time to pick up the kids. There was so much to do, but she had to work shorter days now. She picked up the children, and brought them home. And now the hard part started.

Jeffrey and Kelly were all wound up from their busy days. They wanted to go out and play, but had to change clothes first. She had to start dinner, watch the kids, change Brandi, clean up the house which seemed to instantly get dirty with the young ones, make up the shopping list, answer the phone which was endlessly ringing, and not fall apart.

She did all that was needed, and more. She wanted to be the ideal mother. With hard work, toil and labor, she eventually got the little ones into bed, fed Brandi, got the housework down. Exhausted, she sat down on the couch for a minute.

* * *

Jessica woke up, and looked at the clock. It was 10:30pm! She had fallen asleep from being so exhausted. She walked to the backyard, and looked at the sky. It was cloudy, and she couldn't find the moon to look into.

"Karana!" she said, and looked around, but there was no reply. A few minutes later however, there was a break in the clouds and she could see the moon. She called for Karana again, and just a few moments later, she appeared.

"Come inside" said Jessica, motioning Karana to follow.

"No. I can't let the children see me. But you should go check on them. You've been out here a while, plus the time you slept."

"Jessica can do that after you change me back."

"Change you back? I can't. Its too late."

"What do you mean? I called your name when I saw the moon!"

"You didn't listen. Typical for a man. I said: 'When evening comes, as the full moon rises, just go outside, stare at the moon and call my name.' The moon has been in the sky for hours now. It is too late."

"No!"

"Yes, I'm afraid so. You had to change back within 24 hours, but you called me too late. I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do now. I nor anyone else have the power to change you back. You are going to have to live the rest of your life as Jessica now."

"No! Please! I'll do anything! I understand now! I'll never act that way again!"

"You're right. You won't act like a foolish man anymore, because you're a woman now. Now and forever."

"No! Please!"

"I'm sorry Jessica, there is nothing I can do. You're just going to have to face up to the fact that you blew it. You missed your chance. You're a woman now Jessica. Forever."

"Nooooo!" wailed Jessica as Karana faded from her view, just as the moon went back behind a cloud.

She was crying now, full tears causing her mascara to run. She was a woman now, and would live out the rest of her life that way. She cried and cried.

Suddenly, she heard another voice crying. Brandi. Her heart leaped. Brandi needed her! The selfish thoughts evaporated, and the need to tend to her daughter overrode anything else. She felt the fullness of her breasts from the milk inside. Forgetting her own problems, she went up to tend to the baby.

Her husband would be back home soon, his stint in the army reserves being completed. Things would be better soon. Her body ached for him. It wouldn't be long now, before she could have her own desires fulfilled. She smiled as Brandi suckled her. This was her life now, and she had to accept it. The children were such a joy, and soon she would have her lover back. She went to sleep a happy woman.

Author's note: a friend who reviewed this story said it wasn't as much of a turn-on as he would have liked. I wanted to stress that the purpose of this particular one was to make men understand that when they wish they were real women, our world is not all sugarplums, lollipops and skirts. Many women in real life do every day what Jessica does in the story, or more! I hope you can gain an understanding of what it really means to be a woman. Be careful what you wish for. Your wish might come true some day...
