"MOMMA, DON’T MAKE ME ANSWER THAT QUESTION!!!"

* * * * * * * * * *

(DR Kline)

"Phyllis, she is getting too agitated for this. If this continues I’ll have to sedate her."

(Michelle)

"Please Doctor Kline. Don’t do that. I’ll remain calm. Just don’t ask me to answer that question, right now, MOMMA."

(Phyllis French)

"OK Dear, but you realize that pretty soon you will have to give me a better answer."

(Michelle)

"Yes MOMMA, I know. Just, not right now. Please?"

(PA System)

DR Kline, phone call at the nurse’s station. DR Kline, phone call at the nurse’s station.

(DR Kline)

"Well, I’ll answer that while you two straighten things out."

(Phyllis French)

"We’ll be just fine here. Michelle and I need to have a long talk anyway. It’s been a long time since we had a true Mother/Daughter heart-to-heart. Off with you now, so that we can have some privacy."

(At The Nurse’s Station)

(DR Kline)

"Hello, this is DR Kline. Oh, Hi...... Yes, she’s fine. It could have been a real disaster, if not for Christy. She saved our bacon today. We almost blew it. We should have known better...... Are you sure this is the right time for that. I realize that he is the closest that he has ever been, but now?......Yes, I agree, this was just too close. I’ll take the blame for that......Yes we can start the ball rolling on PAYBACK. Now, if that is what you want. I’ll make a call after we hang-up...... No, Christy will be fine with a few days bed rest. You would be proud of the way she chopped them up and spit them out...... No, that is where I really screwed up. I didn’t take into account all the foibles of men and Maxwell in particular. Too bad, I’m going to find out what kind of hold they had on him. They will pay for what they have done, and soon...... Good-bye, and be careful."

(DR Kline Dials Another Number)

"This is Kline. Is the Limo still in the area?....... OK. Start Payback now, I say start Payback now. No mess ups. Do what you have to do, to shut down any outgoing communications from that Limo. The clock starts now, with no time extensions. Do it right the first time, we won’t have a second chance. Do it wrong and innocent blood will be shed. Notify me if anything goes wrong, or when they are in the bag."

(Michelle’s Room )

(Nurse Christy)

"Hello Cris, or should I say Michelle. All alone? How are you feeling?"

(Michelle)

"Hello Nurse Christy. My Mother left a little while ago. What happened to you? When did you decide to try being a patient here?"

(Nurse Christy)

"You had some unwanted visitors. I had to explain to them that visiting hours were over. They wouldn’t take NO for an answer, so I had to evict them."

(Michelle)

"Don’t feed me a bunch of manure like that. You’re not bandaged like that from just a simple cat fight. Something has been going on here, but no one wants to admit it. Spill it. Everything that has been happening seems to revolve around me, or my family somehow. If my family is involved, I deserve to know what has been happening, and why. Does this still involve the attacks from 5 years ago?"

(Nurse Christy)

"Slow down girl. I just stopped by to see how you were. All the rest of it , you will have to talk to your Mother and Dr. Kline. Are you all straightened out now, on who you are? You may not remember, but we’ve known each other for a long time. From now on, just call me Christy. Everyone else does."

(DR. Kline)

"Nurse Christy, what are you doing out of bed? You were ordered to bed for the next 24 hours. Why aren’t you there? Not only are you violating my orders for your care, but bothering one of the other patients to boot."

(Nurse Christy)

"Chill Doc. I was only checking on my patient. I couldn’t rest until I knew she was resting O.K. I was just about to toddle off to my own room, as it was. By the way Michelle, it's across the hall, Room 107. Visit me, if they will allow it."

(Michelle)

"OK Nur.. Christy. I’ll visit you as soon as they will let me."

* * * * * * * * * *

(DR Kline’s Office)

(DR Kline)

"Hello. This is DR Kline. Yes... Good.... Any problems?... Excellent. Remember absolutely no drugs can be used on him. He has an allergic reaction to damn near everything but water, and water is just speculation. We have only a few days to set this up, or we lose this opportunity completely. I’ll check in later. Christy will be needed for this later, but she needs rest first. OK.... Yes, I know that I can trust you to handle this. Remember, you were hand picked for this job, and I’ve always trusted her choices completely. Good night, I will be by in the morning to observe."

(Hangs-up and re-dials)

(DR Kline)

"Hello. Kline here. They’re in the bag. No snags. We should start having results sometime tomorrow. I’ll have a car pick you up.... OK. Four P.M. will be fine. Good night."

* * * * * * * * * *

(Nurse Christy’s Room)

(DR Kline)

"How is my patient tonight? Resting comfortably?"

(Nurse Christy)

"Let me out of here Doc. There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m going stir crazy here."

(DR Kline)

"No, you stay here for the night. I have some work for you tomorrow on PAYBACK. Its started."

(Nurse Christy)

"OK Doc. I’ll be good. Oh uh Doc? What can I tell Michelle?"

(DR Kline)

"You can tell her about you and your family, of course. Also, you can talk about anything after, but nothing before the Witness Protection fiasco. Even that may come out soon, but not yet. You get a good nights rest. We really need you tomorrow. However, the doctor in me wants you to have more bed rest. Any pain or discomfort? I can prescribe something more if you need it, or something to help you to get to sleep."

(Nurse Christy)

"There is some minor pain left but not bad. I want to remain clear headed just in case I’m needed. I had to pull rank, to get them to leave my weapon here."

(DR Kline)

"You can’t be on duty 24/7 Christy. You have to rest sometime."

(Nurse Christy)

"When it comes to his family, I’ll do what I have too. I wouldn’t have a sister without him, and he has suffered so much because of that."

(DR Kline)

"All right then, see you tomorrow. I’ll check those sutures and dressings tomorrow afternoon. Until then, if you can’t stay in bed, at least take it easy. It may be a long night tomorrow. Good night Christy."

(Nurse Christy)

"Good night Doc."

* * * * * * * * * *

(Nurse Christy’s Room)

(Michelle)

"Is anybody home?"

(Nurse Christy)

"Oh, Michelle. Good morning. I see they let you out of your cage."

(Michelle)

"Escaped is more like it. I wasn’t told I couldn’t visit, so here I am. You said we’ve known each other for a long time, but I don’t seem to remember you. Would you please tell me what you know about all this...this mess?"

(Nurse Christy)

"I can’t tell you all that I know. Some of the story is classified. Part of it, is not for me to tell you. Although I’ve been told that, that time is coming soon, also. However, maybe I can tell you enough so that you will understand things a little better. I guess you could say it started when my father was stationed as an Embassy guard overseas. Your father was assigned there also, but I’m not sure in what official capacity. One day my 12 year old sister and my mother went shopping at the local market. By 5 o’clock when they hadn’t returned, the local police were asked for assistance. A few hours later, my mother’s body was found. However, no trace of my sister was found. It was known that a Kiddie Porn Group was operating out of the area, so they knew that time was critical. This group not only made films of abuse, but the child was eventually murdered on film. They found her, abused but alive, three days later. Your father was with the police during the raid, as an observer. The leader of the group, had hidden himself inside the building. When he finally tried to run, your father was in his way. He made the mistake of pulling a knife. Your father had no choice but to defend himself. It was later discovered that the leader, of this group, was the son of a very rich and vindictive man. My sister was alive but, to this day, is still in therapy. The next day, as is normal for this type of thing, both our families were returned to the United States. This prevents detention in case of false accusations, and requires extradition hearings to get them back. Americans have a short life expectancy in foreign prisons."

(Michelle)

"Now I remember you. You’re the babysitter that taught me how to bake cookies."

(Nurse Christy)

"Yes that was me. Losing my mother and almost my sister, scared me so badly that I started taking martial arts classes. However, the condition that my sister was in motivated me to become a nurse. After graduation, your father approached me, suggesting that I join the CIA. I later learned that, he had become the senior instructor for their training facility. If you remember, I visited with you a few times while I was going thru training. Everyone at this facility was hand picked by your d... the agency and fiercely loyal to your dad. At least, as loyal as they can be without interfering with their primary assignments "

"Six or seven years ago, your father had 2 or 3 near miss accidents. If he hadn’t been able to avoid them he would have died. It wasn’t until your parents’ death, that they realized that they were no accidents. They had proof that the vindictive father was behind all the attacks, but he was untouchable in his country and had Diplomatic Immunity anywhere else. At that point, it was decided to hide you using the Witness Protection Program. We did a spot check after 30 days and discovered that your location was already compromised. After that, the Agency decided that it could provide better protection for your family."

(Michelle)

"That explains a lot, but still leaves so much unanswered. Thank you, Christy, for telling me this. Actually, I spent a lot of time last night coming to grips with my parents death. Something I really couldn’t do before. I understand that the hypnosis was more to help me cope with that, than to keep me in character. Is there anything that can be done about that ..that.. man. Why did he want to kill my parents? Why does he still want to kill me and my family? I never did anything to him. Can’t he just leave us alone?"

(Christy)

"Calm down. Something is being done as we speak. In fact, it started last night while you slept. Trust me when I say, ‘that man will never hurt anyone, ever again’. I can’t tell you what is to happen, but it will be appropriate and very unpleasant. Enough of this unpleasant talk. It’s time for some real girl talk. Are there any hunks at your school? We really need to go shopping for your debut. It’s long past time for your coming out party."

(Michelle)

"It was fun, pretending to be a boy. Although, it was getting harder to conceal myself. Mother is right, that I need to start wearing dresses and more feminine styles. I will insist on having, at least, one set of grubbies to wear. Christy? Can I ask you a favor? Can you go shopping with me? Mom has fine taste in clothes, but doesn’t have a clue about teen fashions."

(Christy)

"I would love to go shopping with you. In fact, I need a few things myself, after yesterday. Although, it will have to wait a day or so. Now, back on track. You didn’t answer me, when I asked you, about boys."

(Michelle)

"Well there is this one boy...."

* * * * * * * * * *

(Nurse Christy’s Room)

(DR Kline)

"Well Christy, your wounds appear to be healing, and you now have new dressings. Are you ready to go back to work?"

(Nurse Christy)

"I was ready yesterday, Doc. Anytime you say. I can’t wait to get my hands on that scumbag."

(DR Kline)

"Remember your job is to monitor him, not manhandle him. I know you can do both. However, that would be the easy way out for him. Just think of the long term plans and keep it simple. From my examination, you are fit for duty, as long as you stick to the plan. If you can’t stick to the plan, it’s not me you will answer too. I don’t think you want to answer to him, do you?"

(Nurse Christy)

"No, you’re right, of course. He has suffered enough, as it is."

(DR Kline)

"Now that that is settled, let’s go to work. We picked up our guests yesterday. After a few hours traveling to confuse them, they were brought here. As far as they know, this is a kidnapping for ransom. His thugs will be released tomorrow, with the story that they are to await instruction. They are to go to the airport where their plane is, and wait there until told to pick up their boss. This will only happen, after the ransom is paid and only if they do not contact anyone. If they contact anyone, the boss is dead and so are they."

(Nurse Christy)

"What are the chances that they will disobey those orders? Coming from their boss, I would hope, not very high."

(DR Kline)

"No we won’t take any chances. Besides, we did a little reinforcement before they left this morning. Ahh. Here we are."

(In the Hospital’s Secure Basement Area)

(DR Kline)

"How is our subject doing?"

(Security Guard at Desk)

"We think that he has bought the story that this is a simple kidnap for ransom. He has written a note to his people informing them of the ransom demand and where to make the drop. We released his men with orders not to contact anyone. If they made any attempt to make contact with anyone, they would all die. We got there boss to emphasize that. We used hypnotic suggestion, to get them to follow their bosses orders, to the letter. The plane was fixed last night, and is fueled and ready to go as soon as our guest is ready to leave."

(DR Kline)

"Sounds like we are on schedule. How far has he progressed?"

(Security Guard)

"His men were released about 2 A.M. this morning. Since then we have started his accelerated day/night schedule. We know that he had a long flight in, and then the drive here. Last night he wasn’t allowed to sleep until after his men left. The rooms lights are left on constantly. Just as he starts to enter REM sleep, a guard enters his room to check-up on him. His first sleep period was 5 hours long, but the clock in his room shows it to be 9 hours. We control the clock from this control panel. His day/night periods have been reduced to 3 hours each. The shortened day/night routine and lack of REM sleep, makes coherent thought progressively difficult. Right now, he is convinced that he has been here for 2 days. He knows the ransom note says that the deadline is 2 days. He is now starting to worry about that fact. By this time tomorrow, he will think that they have abandoned him. This will allow us to gain valuable information, from him, about his group. We’ve digitized his voice, from our interrogations, and have made a recording. Using one of these recordings, his men will be told that he has escaped and that they are to take off, and return home. They are to contact the other planes pilot to stand-by for a passenger, in a few days. They are to receive instructions then. In addition, they are to tell the other crew that their boss is returning with them. They are to file a flight plan listing there Boss on the flight. They are to make sure that others are accidentally aware of this. They are told, this is to make it appear that he is beyond recapture, while he is free to plots his revenge."

(DR Kline)

"Christy, I want you to monitor his vital signs, and act as the day time captor. Later you will need a few changes of clothes to give the impression of different days. Did the Boss make it in yet?"

(Security Guard)

"Yes, a little while ago. Surprise, Surprise. Made a bee line straight to the observation room."

(DR Kline)

"I’ll be in there also, for a while. Please, don’t disturb us."

(Michelle’s Room)

(Phillis French)

"Hi Michelle, look who I was able to drag down here."

(Michelle)

"Michael! Julie! It's about time you two came to see me. Come here, both of you. I need a hug, bad."

(Julie French)

"Michelle, you always need a hug. As a matter of fact, so do I."

(Michelle)

"OK brother, your turn. Make it a big one. I’m sorry we had that fight and then wrecked your bike, on top of that. It wasn’t my fault, really."

(Michael French)

"That’s OK Sis. I saw what was left of it and where you landed. It’s a miracle it wasn’t any worse. The police looked around the area and found a jagged chunk of steel, buried in the ground. It matched the tear in the back tire. There was no way you could have seen it. Anyway, I sure am glad you’re going to be a girl again. You didn’t make that good a boy, lately."

(Phyllis French)

"Now that I have everyone in one spot, I want to know what is going on with you three. The last week or so, you have all been a real pain in the butt. I want some answers, and I want them now. Michelle, you first."

(Michelle)

"Maybe, you should ask Michael about his computer first."

(Michael)

"Not that again, I told you I had no idea what you were talking about. Besides when I looked, I couldn’t even find what you said was there."

(Michelle)

"That’s probably because you erased it. I know what I saw."

(Phyllis French)

"Quiet, both of you. Michelle. Tell ME, what you are talking about."

(Michelle)

"Well, last week, I had that book report due. AOL and Windows both started conflicting with each other, so I had to use Michael’s. I selected the history file and there were a lot of weird named sites listed. When I selected one called Crystal’s Story Site, I got interested and started to read. At that site, there were a whole bunch of stories of people changing sex. In some ways, they were kinda like me. Some of the stories were pretty awful. Most, weren’t that bad, but not my kind of reading. I started to get the idea that, I could write just as well as any of them. In fact, I think I could even write a better story than any of them, with a little practice. I had started on one, when I had the accident. I was thinking about it when I woke up from the anesthesia. My condition was so close to my story, that I just freaked. When I confronted Michael about these story sites, he denied knowing anything about them. In fact, he called me a liar. He said when he went to look, he couldn’t find any trace of any such history or bookmarks. I called him a liar and a freak and went to my room. The next day, I was still mad, so I borrowed his bike to get some fresh air, and you know the rest."

(Phyllis French)

"OK, Michelle. Thank you. Now young man. Your turn. Explain your side of this."

(Michael French)

"I still don’t know why she thinks I was at those story sites. I never heard of them, until she told me about them. I was never able to find anything like that on my computer. I don’t care what she says, ‘I never was at any of those places, and I never erased any of that kind of stuff off of my computer.’ I think she’s nuts."

(Phyllis French)

"If that is the truth, then why have you been so moody around the house for the last couple of weeks? If it wasn’t something to do with those stories, it was something. Out with it. If it isn’t believable then I know that you’ve been lying to me."

(Michael French)

"Well... You know, Cindy, don’t you?"

(Phyllis French)

"She’s the girl you’ve been dating for a while, isn’t she?"

(Michael French)

"Yes, that’s her. Well, she missed her period and thought she was pregnant. She wanted to know what I was going to do about it. I asked her if she was sure and had she taken any tests to make sure. She didn’t have any money for the home test thing so I got her one to make sure one way or the other. As it turns out, she’s not. However, I think I’m in over my head right now. I know what we did was wrong, Mom, but I DID NOT DO what Michelle says I did!"

(Phyllis French)

"You have that WRONG part right, young man. After we get to the bottom of all this..."

(Julie French)

"Calm down everyone. Let me get a word in edge wise. It wasn’t Michael that went to those story sites on his computer. It was me! My computers modem broke. I wanted to download the latest stories, so I used Michael’s computer. A few days later, I realized that I hadn’t erased the history files. I went back and erased everything, but apparently Michelle had already seen everything. You see, ‘I WANT TO BE A GUY AGAIN!’"
