Now and Forever
by Jennifer White
At school, Gene couldn't help but to stare at Bethany. She was so beautiful. And she had developed so much, well ahead of the other girls at school. Even just a year ago, Gene didn't care. Girls were yucky, and he hadn't wanted anything to do with them. They wore icky clothes like skirts and dresses, they wanted to kiss, and all sorts of things that little boys hated.
But now that they were in high school together, Gene was reaching the point where he suddenly found himself interested in girls. And more than any other, he was interested in Bethany. At the end of school last year, she looked like any of the other girls. But now, she looked so much more like a woman, so developed ahead of the others.
He looked at her in math class. She sat across the aisle from him, his eyes were drawn to her burgundy sweater, and the way it bulged out in the front, where she sweet mounds of her breasts pushed it out.
Her long golden hair fell around her face, and down her back. She twirled it with her slender finger, making it hard not to look at her even more. The nails at the end of her fingers were perfectly shaped, and covered with a red nail polish that matched her sweater.
Today she wore a skirt, so Gene could see her bare ankles, and the bottom of her legs up to her knees. Sometimes she wore jeans or pants as well, and those would be just as hard not to look at, the way she filled them out.
Gene looked at her chest again, and at the necklace she wore. It glinted golden in the light, with a diamond in the middle. It dangled there, between her breasts, helping to draw his eyes there even more.
Gene was in love with Bethany, even if she didn't really even know him.
* * *
Gene thought about Bethany all the time. He couldn't help but to daydream about her all the time. And when they were together, he stared at her endlessly. He tried to talk to her, but he was awkward and clumsy, and he didn't do very well.
He did manage to find out that her necklace had belonged to her great-great-grandmother. But in general, when he tried to talk to her, it never went very well. She mostly just ignored him.
But one day, something happened that excited Gene. He looked at Bethany's desk after she left their history class, and there on the floor was her necklace!
Gene hurried over and picked it up. It still felt warm from her. He clutched it close to him. He would give it to her, and be a big hero. She'd see how wonderful he was, and she'd fall in love with him too.
He hurried into the hall to try and find her, but she was nowhere to be seen. He knew where her locker was, but she wasn't there. And it was the last class of the day. She had left quickly, and she was gone.
Gene knew where she lived, but he was too afraid to go to her house. What if she wasn't home? If he gave it to her mother, and she told Bethany that 'some boy from school' brought it back, he wouldn't get to be the big hero.
So there was only one choice: hang on to it until tomorrow. He'd see her in his 2nd class of the day, and present it then. Maybe she'd give him a kiss, right there on the spot...
* * *
Gene took the necklace home with him. He kept it in his jeans pocket, so it would be close to him all day. He decided that he'd sleep with it under his pillow.
When it was time for bed, after he brushed his teeth, he went to his bedroom and put on an old oversized T-shirt to sleep in. He took the necklace out of his pants pocket, and looked at it closely. How it glinted in the light. How pretty it was, just like Bethany.
Gene held it closer, and examined it. How the diamond sparkled, looking so stunning in the light. He wondered what it would look like on him. He decided to put it on, so he could somehow be closer to *her*. Whenever he saw her from then on, he would know that the necklace around her neck had once been worn by him. It would be forever something that bound her to him.
He fumbled with the clasp in the back, finally getting it to open, and putting it around his neck. He then got it to close after several tries, and let the necklace fall down onto *his* chest. He looked at himself in the mirror on his vanity.
He saw himself in the mirror, wearing the pretty necklace. Now he had something to make him closer to Bethany. He smiled.
But in the mirror, he noticed something now. Something like a double image of himself. He blinked a couple of times, but instead of his vision being clearer, it looked even more blurry.
He realized that he was seeing something other than himself in the reflection. He was seeing a grand old lady looking back at him. She must have been Bethany's great-great-grandmother. She had the same nose, and the same beautiful eyes.
"I can barely see you child" she said in a weak voice.
"Hello?" he said, scared. His voice cracked with a high pitch, as boys in puberty sometimes do.
"The necklace has come to you so soon" said the old lady. "Bethany isn't even 18 yet, and I didn't expect her to pass it on to you Elizabeth, until you were older. But she is a loving sister, and so kind."
The old lady thought that he was Bethany's younger sister Liz! He knew that she had a sister who was just 13, but he hadn't cared about her at all. He only cared about Bethany.
"I'm sure your mother has told you about the wonderful power of the necklace. Already it is working on you. You will soon become a lovely young woman, like your sister. And like your mother before you. And her mother. All the way back to me."
Gene was stunned. What was she talking about?
"Later, I will pass down the family knowledge and lore to you dear. But for now, you will first learn the secret of our beauty, and receive it for yourself."
Gene took a step back from the mirror. This was bad. He didn't want to receive beauty! He had to take the necklace off before something horrible happened. He reached back to undo it, but found that it was now behind his long hair.
His long hair! It had been cropped short, just a few seconds ago! But now, he had long shoulder length hair, and it was blond! That was impossible!
He had seen the old woman's face in the mirror, and hadn't noticed himself change. If he had long hair now, then what about....
Gene looked down to his chest, and wanted to scream. There, on *his* chest, were a pair of perfect young perky breasts, just like Bethany's! He had breasts now! His large nipples protruded, and were clearly visible through his thin white undershirt.
He tore his shirt off, and started down at his chest. No! How could he have tits? He couldn't let anyone see him like this! His chest looked like a girl's! If he had big breasts now, then what about....
He tore off his boxers, and started at what he found. Nothing. There was nothing between his legs now! He had been dreaming of girls every night, and imagined getting into their pants. He had imagined what he would do to them, and how he would make love to them, feeling himself inside their pussys. But now, he had one himself!
"I'm a girl" he whispered, in a voice that was soft, melodious, and *girly*. That had changed too. He gasped, and ran back to the mirror. He could see his reflection now, showing a naked girl staring back at him. A pretty girl, with a strong resemblance to his beloved Bethany. He had become like her sister! Was he Liz now? Or someone else. All he knew was that he was a girl, and it was wrong. He shouldn't be like this! How could he have become a girl?
It was late, but he had to go see Bethany right away, and get this straightened out. He put a shirt on, but found that all his shirts were way too big for him now. His body was smaller, and he needed girl's clothes. He found a shirt that had become too small for him, and tried that on. It fit better, but you could still really see his big boobs through it. He hated how the jiggled as he walked.
He put his boxers back on, and his pants, but he found that they didn't fit either. He had curves now, and his jeans were the wrong shape. He found a pair of sweat pants, with a drawstring on top. He put them on, and pulled the string tight.
Now for shoes. His shoes were all way too big for his feet. But when he snuck downstairs, he found that his mom's shoes fit him perfectly. He put on a pair of black ones, and snuck out the back door. He tried to keep to the shadows. What would someone think if they saw him like this?
He walked the three blocks over to where Bethany lived. What was he going to say to her parents, to get them to wake her up? He would have to lie, and say it was an emergency that had to do with school.
He arrived, practicing in his mind what he'd say to them. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door. He could hear a stereo blasting, playing Brittany Spears. That was strange for her parents to be listening to that!
The door swung open, and Gene found himself looking not at Bethany's parents, but at Bethany herself!
"Hello, how can I help you" said Bethany.
"We need to talk" replied Gene, in his new girlish voice.
"Excuse me, but I don't know who you are. I'm not going to let a stranger into my house!" said Bethany, who looked the girl up and down. She sure dressed poorly. She seemed to have a nice body, but she wore the dumbest clothes. No fashion sense at all in this one.
"Do I look familiar to you?" replied Gene.
Bethany looked at the girl on her front porch for a few moments. Something about her was familiar. She looked like...like a cousin or a close relative. But she couldn't say that she had seen this girl before in her life.
"This is really important" said Gene.
"All right. You're a girl, so I guess it's okay. If you were a boy, I'd never let you in, with my parents being gone for the week like this."
"So it's just you and Liz here?"
"Yes. Just us girls. So what harm could one more girl be? Come on in."
Gene saw Liz sitting on the couch, her legs folded up under her. She was eating popcorn, and reading Cosmo-girl. Her head swayed to the beat of the dance music, which was now quietly playing from the stereo.
"This is kind of embarrassing, and I need to talk to you alone" said Gene.
"Hey kid, scram!" said Bethany.
"Scram yourself. This is my room as much as it is yours" said Liz, sticking her tongue out at her older sister.
"You are so immature!" said Bethany.
"You are so immature" mocked Liz back at her.
"Come on. We'll go to my room" said Bethany.
And so it was that Gene found himself alone with Bethany, in her room, at 10pm on a school night, sitting on the bed with her. This would have fulfilled his wildest fantasy except for one small detail: he was a girl now. That was as far from his hopes and dreams as you could possibly be!
He still hadn't accepted the facts that he had become female. It just couldn't be real. It just couldn't be true. He was in denial, but he needed to talk about this to Bethany. Perhaps she would know how to fix this.
"I wanted to talk to you about something personal" he said.
"Go ahead. I'm listening" said Bethany.
"Well, first of all, do you know that boy Gene who's in a couple of your classes?" he started.
"Oh yes. He's pretty nice, but kind of shy. He scares me sometimes though, the way he's always staring at me. Don't you hate it when boys keep looking at your chest? The way they don't make eye contact? Hello, my eyes are up here on my head, not on my chest!"
She laughed, so Gene laughed along with her nervously. He didn't realize that staring at her made her uncomfortable like that. He blushed a little.
"And what about Gene?" said Bethany.
"Well, you know your necklace, from your great-great-grandmother?" he said.
"How do you know about that?" said Bethany, surprised that a stranger would know about something so personal. "Wait. Are you a relative of mine? You do have a strong resemblance."
"Maybe" said Gene tentatively. He certainly did look like he could be her sister.
"I don't even know your name" said Bethany. "Before we get into this any further, I need to know who you are."
After what she had said about him, he was momentarily scared to tell her that he was really Gene. He didn't know why he did it, but he blurted out something.
"Donna" he said.
"Bethany" she replied, holding out her hand.
He was touching her hand! He had dreamed of this. Why did he have to be a girl now? He wanted to cry he was so upset that everything was wrong like this.
"So what about my necklace" said Bethany.
"Well, you lost it today, right?"
"How did you know?" she said, in shock that this stranger knew so much about her, and knew about her necklace being missing. She had been so scared to tell her mom. She hadn't told *anyone*. How did Donna know about this?
"Gene found it when you left it behind in class. He tried to find you, to give it back, but you had taken off. So he kept it with him, and he was going to give it back to you tomorrow in school."
"You know all this?" she said. "How?"
Gene ignored the question, and kept the story going.
"When he got home, he looked closely at the necklace. He loved that he was holding something that *you* owned. He held it close, and for some dumb reason, he decided to put it on, so he could have a shared experience with you."
"He did?" said Bethany. "He's that obsessed with me that he'd want to wear my jewelry?"
"Yes. And when he wore your necklace, your great-great-grandmother appeared in the mirror. Like she did for you?"
"Y..yes" said Bethany. Only the girls in her family were supposed to know about this secret. They hadn't even told Liz yet. She was going to get a chance to wear the necklace this summer, so she could become a beautiful young woman, like her sister already was.
"Only there was a problem. She mistook Gene for Liz. And she bestowed something on him. Something that made him into this."
Gene motioned with his hands at himself, at his new, pretty, feminine body.
"Donna!" said Bethany, now in complete shock. "You're Gene?"
"Yes" he replied, looking down at the floor.
Gene reached inside his shirt, and pulled out the necklace for her to see. He reached behind his neck to unfasten it.
"I believe this is yours" he said, hands shaking, giving it to her. "Please Bethany, please fix this. I don't want to be a girl. Please help me" he said, breaking down into tears.
Bethany stared at him, and her heart melted. He had only been trying to help her, but somehow everything went awry, and now the poor boy had become a girl. Knowing what it was like to be a teenage girl, and how hard it was for *her* to handle it, Gene must have felt overwhelmed by it all. She decided to try and help him.
"I have no powers" she said. "The necklace let me talk to my great-great-grandmother, and she bestowed beauty upon me. I talked to her again, and she gave me the family lore, and the family knowledge. I know all the family recipes, I know our history, I know so much, and it just happened in a flash!"
"Wow" said Gene.
"Lets try to talk to her again. Let's tell her what happened, and maybe she can fix this. Put it back on, and lets go to the mirror."
Gene put the necklace back on, and went to the mirror with Bethany. He looked at himself, his pretty face, his long hair, the mounds of his breasts pushing out underneath his shirt. He kept staring, and sure enough, just as before, the image of the old lady eventually appeared.
"Ah, Bethany and Elizabeth! Look at you two together" she said.
"Nana!" said Bethany. "Wait! There was a mistake! This isn't Elizabeth. This is a boy named Gene. You bestowed beauty on him by accident! He needs to be changed back!"
"Look how poorly your sister dresses" said the old lady, shaking her head. "She needs more than just the family knowledge. She needs to know how a young lady needs to dress. She needs to know how to make herself pretty. Look at that tangled hair. Look how sloppy she is. Her posture is poor. She slouches like a boy. We need to fix that first."
"No, wait!" said Bethany, but it was too late. Gene's face went blank, and his eyes closed for a full thirty seconds. When his eyes opened up again, she could tell that something about him was different now. His facial expression no longer was full of terror. His posture had changed. His movements looked graceful now.
"Good-bye my dears" said the old lady, as she started to fade away.
"No! Come back!" said Bethany, but it was no use. She was gone. And Gene had bloomed into an elegant young woman.
* * *
"Gene? How do you feel?" said Bethany.
"Uncomfortable" he replied.
"Why? How so?" she said.
"I'm such a mess! Just look at me. I'm not even wearing a bra. I need to get some proper clothes on. Can I use yours?"
"I guess..." said Bethany, stunned that Gene would *want* to be wearing a bra, and her clothes. They were almost the exact same size now that he had been transformed, so her clothes would be sure to fit him.
Gene happily went through her closet, and found an outfit to his liking. He took off his current clothes, and threw them in the trash.
"I won't need those anymore. I'll never dress like that again" he said.
He put on a pair of her panties, a bra, and then selected a pink tank top and a white skirt. He twirled around, making the skirt fly about him. He went over to Bethany's night stand, and began to brush his long hair.
"I feel so much better" he said.
"Gene, look at yourself!" said Bethany. "You are *trying* to be a young woman now. What happened to trying to change back?"
"Donna" he corrected.
"All right, Donna. But what about changing you back?"
"Back to what? What are you talking about?" he said.
"Back to being Gene. To being yourself."
He smiled and laughed out loud.
"Oh Bethany, you're so funny! Why would I want to be a boy? This is so much better."
He *liked* being a girl now. What had her Nana done to him? She had made him want to be a pretty girl now. Bethany remembered how before she wore the necklace the first time, she used to play rough and tumble on the playground. But afterwards, it seemed so silly and childish, and she never did unladylike things again. She had been changed inside too. And now Gene had undergone the same thing!
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Liz walked in.
"I can't wait to tell all the kids at school tomorrow, that Gene is a girl!" she said.
"You were spying on us? You little brat!" said Bethany.
"And now I know how you got to be so pretty so fast. Give me the necklace, so *I* can become a beauty queen too. Like you both."
"No! You're too young!" said Bethany.
"I am not too young!" she shot back.
"Girls!" said Gene. "Settle down!"
"You sound like my mom" said Liz, pouting.
"Give me the necklace" said Bethany, reaching out her hand. Gene took it off, and handed it over. He felt naked without it. He needed to wear some jewelry. Perhaps Bethany would lend him something. And he needed makeup too. But it was late. He'd put that on tomorrow. He'd fell much better then.
Bethany put on the necklace, went to the mirror, and summoned her great-great-grandmother yet again.
"What is it child? I am almost worn out from all this excitement" said the old lady.
Bethany pleaded with her, telling her that she had turned a boy into a girl, and that now she had made him want to be a proper young lady.
"Oh please Nana. You need to fix this! You need to change him back."
"Oh goodness, I didn't realize what I had done" she said. "I will set things aright."
She closed her eyes, and looked at the three of them. Bethany watched Gene to see him change back into the boy he was supposed to be. But she saw nothing.
"There" said the old lady. "Now everything is just as it should be. I am tired now. I need to rest. I usually only do this ever few years. I feel too weak to even talk. Good-bye children..."
She faded out, spent and exhausted. Bethany was furious! She had said that she would change Gene back, but he was still a girl.
"What do we do now?" she said out loud.
"Help me" said a *male* voice. Gene and Bethany turned to see who said that. It was Liz, only she wasn't a girl anymore. She looked like a boy. She was still wearing a short black skirt and a Brittany Spears concert tank top, but she was a *boy* now.
"She changed the wrong girl!" said Bethany, staring at her sister. Not only did she look like a boy now, she looked like Gene!
"Liz? Are you okay kiddo?"
"I'm a boy!" cried Liz. "No! Look between my legs! This thing is getting all hard looking at you two girls! What have you done to me?"
"I didn't do it. Nana did" said Bethany. "You shouldn't have been snooping on us. Now look what you did."
"This is all your fault!" said Liz.
"It's all our faults" said Gene. "All of us."
"What are we going to do?" asked Liz.
"Try to call her again," said Gene, "so she can changer your poor sister back."
Not even a mention of himself. He seemed to *like* being a girl, now that Nana had altered his mind.
"No. She said she's too weak to talk. If we call her again, we might lose her for good. Then you'd be stuck like that forever."
"What are we going to do then?" asked Liz.
"Then there is only one option" said Bethany.
"What?"
"Liz, you have to go over to Gene's house, and pretend to be him. And Gene needs to stay here, and we'll tell everyone that he is Liz."
"I can't pretend to be a boy!" protested Liz.
"Well, you are one now you know."
"Why can't he pretend to be a boy?"
"Well doofus, first of all he's got boobs now. And secondly, Nana made him ladylike. You don't understand how it feels when she does that to you. I used to be rough and tumble, but she did that to me, and now I can't feel comfortable unless I'm wearing a skirt. I don't feel right unless I've got makeup on. I can't feel good unless I look pretty."
"That's just how I feel!" said Gene.
"See? He *can't* act like a boy. And he's a girl now. But you, you've become a boy. So it's the only way."
"No!" said Liz, who grabbed at her older sister, and came away with the necklace, which she hurriedly put on.
"No! What are you doing?" yelled Bethany.
Liz ran into her room and slammed the door shut. They could hear the click of a lock.
"I know where the master key is" said Bethany, who went off to her parent's room. She grabbed the key, returned, and used it to open the door from the hallway. She rushed in, to find Liz in front of the mirror trying to talk to their great-great-grandmother.
"Oh child....I feel so weak....I told you not to summon me until I rested."
"Please Nana, you need to change me back! You made me become a boy! Change me back now!"
"I can barely hear you child....I feel so tired...so tired...."The image in the mirror was getting weaker. It was harder and harder to see the old lady there now.
"...good-bye children....I don't think I'll ever be able to....to return..."
She faded out of sight.
"You idiot! Now she's gone forever!" said Bethany.
"I didn't mean to" said Liz.
"Good going doofus. Now you're stuck as a boy for the rest of your life."
"No!!!!"
"And that means that Gene is stuck as a girl now too."
"I *want* to be a girl. I *have* to be a girl. I need to be pretty, and act ladylike" said Gene.
"At least she altered your mind" said Bethany. "Poor Liz here still thinks like a girl."
"Yeah, how am I supposed to act like a boy?"
"It's easy" said Gene. "First of all, act stupid all the time when you're around girls. Boys fall apart inside when they see us. And make sure you stare at our boobs, instead of looking us in the eye. Boys can't make eye contact with us, or they think our eyes are down here."
Bethany giggled at this. It was so true.
"Boys are dirty, messy and smelly. They fight, they are aggressive, then they turn around and want us to start dating them!"
"But some of them *are* really cute" said Bethany.
"That's true" said Gene, with a big smile. "I can't wait to get out there and find one of the few good ones for myself. Someone who will take me out, and treat me like a lady."
"You want to date boys?" said Liz in amazement.
"Oh yes. I'm a girl. That's what girls do. I might even date *you* if you cleaned up your act, and started dressing better."
"I think that Liz will be a big hit with all the girls. She knows how to dress. She knows hair styles. And she knows how to talk, unlike all those boys who are in our class."
"I agree! The girls will love Liz. She'll be able to get dates every weekend if she wants."
"I'm not dating a girl!" protested Liz.
"But you're a boy now doofus" said Bethany. "You'd rather date boys? Do you know what they'd do to you at school if you tried dating a boy now?"
"Young boys are cruel. They'd eat you up, and *beat* you up" said Gene. "Trust me."
"So I have to go to Gene's house, pretend to be him, act stupid, and go to school as a boy?"
"Yes" said Bethany. "And since we can't ever get Nana back again, thanks to you, then you're stuck like that forever. You had better get used to thinking of yourself as Gene."
She turned to Gene, who was playing with his long hair in the mirror.
"And you, you need to start thinking of yourself as my sister Liz, since you're going to have to live the rest of your life that way."
"Cool" said Gene. "You make a wonderful older sister. I want to grow up to be just like you."
"Aw, isn't that sweet?" said Bethany. "I think I like you better than the *real* Liz already."
Liz stuck out her tongue at Bethany, and she responded in kind.
"My parents...I mean *your* parents now, will be worried. You had better go home" said Gene.
"He's right. I mean, she's right. Go home little boy. I'll see you at school tomorrow."
"But how will I know what to do and where to go?" replied Liz.
"I'm in most of your classes, so I can help you. And if you seem to be inept, bumbling and out of place...."
"...they'll think you're a normal boy!" said Gene, completing Bethany's sentence for her.
"And tomorrow is the last day of school for the summer, so if you can get through that, then you'll have months to learn how to be a boy."
They made Liz put on the clothes Gene had worn, told her the address, and sent her off.
"What about me?" said Gene. "How will I know what classes Liz has?"
"I think you should cut school tomorrow. I'll pretend to be mom, and call in sick for you. If the see that you've bloomed overnight, and developed from a young girl into a beautiful young woman like that, they'd be suspicious. But if they think this happened over the summer, it won't be so bad."
"You're right. See, like I said. You make a wonderful older sister."
They hugged each other, then got ready for bed. Gene looked around his new room, at the posters of the hunks from TV. The dolls on the dresser. The closet full of girl's clothes. The pink frilly sheets. This was his room now. He was Elizabeth, and would be for the rest of his life.
But inside, Nana had changed him. He *wanted* to act ladylike, and be pretty. He decided that while his sister was at school tomorrow, he'd reorganize all his clothes, and get rid of the ones that weren't pretty enough, or feminine enough.
He could get some of Bethany's hand-me-downs to take their place. Or they could go hang out at the mall, and go shopping. That would be so exciting! He could hardly wait.
He stretched out, and felt his body with his hands. Why was he even thinking 'he' anymore? The male part of his life was over for good, and he was *female* now.
"I'm a girl" said Gene. "And I like it!"
She closed her eyes, and soon drifted off to sleep, where she dreamed she was a princess, riding on a white horse, looking for her prince in the enchanted forest. There were no 'male' thoughts left in her head, nor would there ever be. She would grow up from now on as a healthy, normal girl. Her life as Gene was all but forgotten, and she was Liz now. Now and forever.
The End?
