The New Fantasy 18
by
Paul G Jutras
As a rumble shook the house, Paul looked outside to see a moving truck pull into the driveway next door. In a blue t-shirt and sneakers with tan slacks, Paul ran outside with his mom and dad. "Look, someone is moving in next door."
"Oh my," he said as her stared at a girl his own age with shoulder length blonde hair that reached her black turtle neck. Her plaid vest matched her skirt that barely covered her hips. "She's beautiful."
"I'm Samantha Swanson." She cooed as her large muscular father helped the moved carry in their furniture.
"You're perfect." Paul said as he realized what he was saying and corrected himself. "I mean I'm Paul Lodge and I think you're perfect."
"Thanks," Samantha giggled."
"How about I take you out to dinner, Samantha," asked Paul.
"No way!" Her father said as he got between them. "I won't have my daughter dating a runt like you. She needs a boy friend who can defend her."
"Oh, daddy." Samantha said as she wrapped her hands around Paul's neck and kissed the side of his face. "He's cute and I'd love to go out with him."
"You better be back before dark." Samantha's dad said as they walked off.
Later after pizza in public and making out in the their car at the drive in movie, Paul walked Samantha to her front door. "See you tomorrow?"
"We'll see, Paul." Samantha said coolly. "You're cute but you're not the only boy in town. Dad may be right about their maybe someone better for me."
"Whatever." Paul said, trying to say cool as well. With a shrug of the shoulder, Paul turned and walked back to his house. He didn't know she was watching him all the way from her bedroom window.
When Paul knocked on Samantha's door the next day, a dark haired and handsome man. "Are you Samantha's brother?"
"The name is Steve," He introduced himself. "I was delivering the newspaper this morning when Samantha's father took one look at me and said I was perfect for his little girl."
Paul turned and ran off with plans to cry into his pillow when Steve escorted Samantha to the couch. "Back off, Steve. You're all hands."
"What's going on?" Mr. Swanson asked as he grabbed Steve by the back of the neck and escorted him to the front door. "If you want to be with my girl, you'll treat her like a proper lady."
"Take care of yourself while I'm at work, dear." He said as he gave her a kiss and left. As soon as he was gone, she leap onto the couch and picked up the phone. As she laid on her stomach, she twirled the cord with her fingers after she dialed.
"Hey, Paul." Samantha said with a giggle. "Guess who."
"Is Steve still there?" Paul asked.
"You silly, jealous boy," giggled Samantha. "Do you think you can do me a favor and show me the town beach?"
"Sounds wonderful," Paul felt like he was floating on a cloud at the thought of seeing Samantha again. "You know that the town is having a dance this afternoon in the old barn at the edge of town?"
"Sound great." Samantha said. "Put your bathing suit under your clothes."
"Come on, Samantha," Paul said as he saw how nervous she seemed. "Don't be a drudge. Going to the beach with someone you like is suppose to be fun. You do like me, don't you?"
"We're passing dad's office building." Samantha said as she peaked around the corner at a series of window. "We'd better go another way to the beach."
"Why do we need to hide in back alleys from you dad?" Paul asked.
"If he does see you, he'll tear you in half." Samantha said. "If only mom hadn't died, maybe she could set him straight."
"I wish there was a way your dad couldn't break us apart." Paul said as he took a penny out of his pocket and dropped it down a well. "Here's wishing."
"Now be sensible, Paul." Samantha said as they got to the beach and strip down to their bathing suit. Paul had on a multi-color bathing trunks while Samantha had a multi color bikini on. "You know how my dad feels about my dating guys with upper body strength. He's such a chauvinist."
"Hey, that bikini looks almost painted on you." Steve said as he walked up to Samantha. He put one hand on her shoulder and took her by the arm. "How about you ditch the loser and sit with me."
Paul watched as she pivoted on her foot; grabbed his arm, and karate flipped Steve onto his back.
"You're deadly and I'm out of here." Steve said as he took off to swim in the water.
When Paul and Samantha were sharing a long surf board, they easy made it standing up together and holding on to one another. "What your balance, Samantha." Paul said as Steve surfaced in front of them. He got struck in the head with the surf board while Paul and Samantha dove into the water before the accident could cause them to get hurt in a wipe out.
"Stop leaning on my fence you big lug!" Paul's dad shouted at Samantha's as he turned to see the two walking up to the house. "You'll break it."
"I see your insect of a kid is with my little girl again." He laughed as a light surrounded both Paul and Samantha. "What's going on."
"Forget the kids and stop leaning on my fence!" Paul's dad shouted.
"Did you say something, pip-squeak?" Mr. Samson asked.
"Dad…Daddy." Paul said as he fell against Mr. Samson. "Tell me that I'm not standing here looking at my own beautiful body."
"What kid of joke are you trying to pull here kid?" Mr. Samson said as he saw Paul's face in the type of tears he had only seen in his own daughter's eyes. "You mean, you've switched bodies?"
A short time later, a doctor left Samantha's bedroom and sighed. "I don't know how it possible but that boy has all your daughters memories and know of her own. Basically they have somehow switched bodies like magic."
"Paul, I've been grounded." Samantha said as she ran back to her own house in Paul's body.
"I know," Paul said with a sigh as he stood in her old school's cheerleader outfit and pom-poms. "That's why I'm heading back to my place. "You dad blames you for our secret date that resulted in my making the wish for them not to be able to break us apart. My dad sign me up for cheer leading tryouts at the end of the week."
While Samantha sat in her bedroom, she stared out the window while Paul got out a trampleen and bounce up to her. "These breasts and short cheerleading skirts are going to take some getting us to."
"Good grief!" Sampson said he stared out of the downstairs window as Paul dropped passed only to bounce back up. "You two may have no choice but to get married after high school if your dad and I can't figure a way to switch you back, but you're not married yet. Now stop being a peeping tom and get back to your own house!"
"I need to relax." Mr. Sampson sighed as he went to his back yard and stretched a hammock between two trees near Samantha's bedroom. That was when the sound of rock and roll sounded from Samantha's room. "Now what?"
Mr. Samson stored into Samantha's room to see Paul's body leaning against Sam's bed and the head of Samantha on the old Paul's lap. "Turn down those horrible sounds." Mr. Samson said as he unplugged Samantha's record player.
"That sound as you call it is at the top of the hit charts." Paul said in Samantha's high pitch voice.
"You're the one who grounded me, daddy." Samantha said in Paul's voice.
"Wait here." Mr. Samson said as he went down and talked on the phone. Before leaving he turned to his daughter's body. "You, boy. Get my daughter's body into something decent. Do it in the bathroom.
"Are you two at it again?" Paul asked as he came out in a red checkered blouse with tan slacks and loafers only to see his own dad arguing with Mr. Samson. "What is the problem now?"
"I want to apology for my attitude." Mr. Samson said with a sigh. "You're dad and I have been talking things over. It wasn't right for me to try to split you two up. If I hadn't the body switch thing would never have happened."
"That's big of you." Paul said as he sat down on Samantha bed and was taking by the hand by his own parents. "What are you fighting about then?"
"The people in this town would think it strange if they see you living with us in that body and Samantha in yours. That is why you'll have to pretend to be Samantha Samson until you can get married and become Samantha Lodge to get your old last name back."
"I was against it at first." Mr. Samson said. "It's painful to see her body and know the truth. "Mr. Lodge convinced me."
