Marks School Experiance
by Susan Janet Barker
Chapter 3
In the changing rooms Susan felt that she was getting used to using the ladies changing rooms, after using them for most of the morning and was slowly pulling the skirt up when the sales assistant who had come back to the changing cubicle said "I have the accessories that go with that outfit Miss if you would like them" reaching past the curtain with a hand to hand the accessories over.
Court off guard slightly Susan slowly reached out and took the jewellery whilst saying "thank you" quietly, looking in the mirror she saw that the sky blue skirt came to mid thigh and meshed well with the v neck rosy pink T shirt.
Adding the small aquamarine ring and click on studs, she finished of the look with a small pendent with an aquamarine stone resting in the little tear drop, that hung from the chain, well I wasn't one hundred percent that this outfit would go together so well, but this outfit definitely makes me look like a girl and a pretty one at that.
Slipping on the small black shoes that she had bought earlier in the day, she exited the changing rooms and seeing Sarah and Miss Jones heading towards them, walked to some near by clothing racks and thought Maybe if they think I like this to much they will not do some of the other items that they have planed.
Lets see if they can see the new me Susan though as she mentally said you can not see me.
Watching out of the corner of his eye he saw Sarah walk past him and into the changing rooms, and after a few minuets searching came out and say, "mum, I have checked all the cubicles and she is not in there, I can not find her."
"Oh I am sure that she is around here somewhere and I do hope that I don't have to call out for her as it is getting late and we must be getting home soon."
Sensing that it was time to go home, Susan walked up to Miss Jones and said "ok Miss Jones, I am ready to go home."
Sarah turned around sharply and her face was a picture and it took a couple of minuets for her to take it all in, "Susan", she blurted out, "I don't know what you have done to yourself this time, but it has completely changed your looks and I couldn't recognise you."
"Thank you Sarah, I don't know why, but this outfit felt just right."
"That's just your inner self showing through Susan, don't worry about it," Sarah said.
"Ok Susan, I will get you that outfit, but then we have to go as it is getting late and we need to get you home", Miss Jones Added.
Susan walked into the front room of her home a bit later and caught her parents unaware in the change of her appearance, her mother recovered quicker and said "that look suits you Susan, but in order for you to fully understand what it is like to be a girl all of the time, your farther and I have agreed that you will stay at Sarah's for the week as we will be going to Europe to sort some things out and will be gone a week."
"But mum, why can I not stay here and dress as a girl?"
"We might have believed you before this incident but frankly we don't trust you enough at the moment, you will have to earn our trust again and that is the end of it, so go and pack the case on your bed with your new clothes and things that you will need to take with you."
Still not quite believing what his mum had just said, he answered "ok mum" and went to pack his case.
When it was ready he carried it downstairs and placed it by the few bags that he had just bought, but what would not fit into the case and after Susan had said goodbye to her parents took all of the bags out to Miss Jones's car with Sarah's help.
And in doing so missed the look of sorrow that past between Janet and Lucy that transmitted a message that did not need saying but both understood.
"Good luck Janet, you and Steve take care while you are away" Lucy said.
"We will Lucy, I hope my son doesn't play you up too much while we are away, call us if you need to" Janet responded.
"I will Janet, now I better go or the girls will wonder what is keeping me".
"Bye".
Three days later Susan walked into Sarah's kitchen and made herself some breakfast, and was soon joined by Sarah who said "I know you are finding it hard Susan, but you are picking up the female mannerisms ok."
"I know Sarah, somethings I can pick up easily but other things just take longer."
"I'm off to the gym, I'll see you later" Sarah said and got up and went to the basement were the gym was situated, watching her go Susan was thinking, Sarah is so lucky having her mum at home most of the time as my mum and dad are not around as much especially at the moment.
I mean come on, I know I have messed up big time but why did they have to go to Europe at a time like this, I am not stupid or lazy at school, its just that I ...., oh what's the use I am stuck like this until my parents get back at the end of this week at least.
Just then his thoughts where interrupted by Miss Jones calling "Susan, phone for you sweety."
"For me Miss Jones? Who would call me here?" she asked.
"Its you mum, so I will leave you alone and I'll go and see how Sarah is doing in the gym."
Once Miss Jones had left to check on Sarah, Susan approached the phone and swallowed a couple of breaths as she just new that this was going to be bad news, picking the phone up, she said "hi mum, how are you?"
"I'm fine Mark how are you handling the changes?"
"I'm finding some of it hard and I miss you terribly mum, when are you getting back home?"
"That's part of why I am calling, we will be here another week before we can come home, so you will have to stay a bit longer with Janet I'm afraid."
"Oh mum, I was hoping that you would be coming back early and that when you came back that this would all be over?"
"I'm sorry Susan but even if we did come back this week, you would still have to do your punishment, so its best if you do your best to blend in."
"I will try mum but surly everyone will know something is up, when after a week has gone by without myself or Sarah, that when Sarah returns in a lower school year with a new girl, I am afraid that they will realise it is me?"
"I see your point Susan, I will call Miss Smart and see if we can make things a bit easier for you and Sarah, as even though you are not saying anything, I know that inside you do care about her, but I am not promising anything."
As the silence grew between them, Janet Said "I love you Mark."
"I love you too mum" he replied and put the phone down and said out loud "So it looks like I am stuck in this situation, oh well I might as well try my best to become the girl I am supposed to be", and so having decided what he had to do he headed for the gym.
In Europe Mr and Miss Barker were discussing there wayward son.
"I know Mark is taking this enforced change hard Steve, but are we doing the right thing and what is best for him?"
"Janet love, as much as I hate seeing my son the way he is at the moment, you know as much as I do that the change is coming as I have felt it as much as you have, and if they don't buy the switch that we did, his life will be in danger."
"I know Steve, but it is hard not being there for him, especially as he has no idea of what is coming, lets just hope that it works Steve, as I couldn't think of what would happen if they get to him ahead of time."
"Here's to hope and love" he said, and gave her a big hug before they carried on with there plans.
A few days later in Sarah's house, the moment Mark had been dreading had arrived, it was the day he was to attend the school as a girl.
So he got a shower and dressed in his new school uniform, dragging it out as much as he could while dressing as a girl for the week he had been as Sarah's house was not that bad, putting the girls school uniform on reminded him of his past mistakes, and the added worry that the other school kids would know it was him as soon as they saw him.
After he had had his breakfast, Miss Jones asked him to present himself to her so that she could check him over to make sure he looked ok.
"You look well Susan, but there is one thing that needs changing, here let me", and reaching out she took his tie of and replaced it with one of Sarah's year explaining and she did the same for Sarah, "Miss Smart called and said that you mum had called and explained your worries and that she agreed with them."
"So as a way for you to blend into the crowd at school, you will join Sarah in her year group as an exchange student while you are dressed as Susan, and that way Mark's disappearance will not stick out as much."
"Thank you Miss Jones" Susan said, and she responded.
"Don't worry about it Susan, now lets get you both to school."
After Miss Jones had dropped the girls off at the school gates, Susan took a deep breath and looked around at the school from a new perspective, noticing the curved arch of the assemble hall with its little bricks sticking out of the wall in a decorative patten leading all the way up to the roof.
Thinking I'm not here as he followed Sarah into the school grounds, as she went to her form room to have her attendance taken and after passing pupils and teachers alike that she knew, he was a little surprised when none of them recognised him straight away as Mark.
"Relax Susan as no one will recognise you, because if I didn't know who you really are, I would not recognise you" Sarah said as a way to encourage him.
"If you get panicky just do what you did in the shop, as it worked what ever it was you did."
So feeling a bit better Susan took what Sarah said to heart and mentally said I am a girl and always have been, and followed Sarah the rest of the way to her form room feeling a lot more relaxed and sat down beside her automatically sweeping her skirt forward as she did so.
"Good morning class" Mr White said as he walked into the room and started taking the register, when he got to the end he said "I would like to introduce Susan to the class, she is an exchange student from a school in Europe."
"I hope you all make her feel welcome as she has only been in the UK for a week, thanks to Sarah's family's generosity in taking her in and showing her around, ok class please follow me to the assembly hall."
Once in the assembly hall, Miss Smart stood up and addressed the hall, "good morning all, I hope you all had a good weekend and are looking forward to your lessens this week, I would like to introduce Mrs Smile who is the new wood works teacher and Susan and Katie who are exchange students and will be staying with us for a while, I hope you all make them feel welcome here."
After the rest of the assembly was completed, Susan followed Sarah out of the hall and towards her first lesson (languages).
