The Male Debutantes' Pageant
by Annabel Naismith
Chapter Ten
Amy called for Andy on Monday morning and they walked to the bus stop together. They had only gone as far as the corner when they met Dan.
"Hi, Dan," greeted Amy with a friendly smile. "You don't usually meet us here."
"No," said Dan, "I thought I'd meet you up here this morning, in case Jess came to try and get me before I could meet up with anyone."
"Yeah, when me and Amy were walking home last night, she was waiting for us with Lucy and Gemma. She called us names and went to hit us, so we ran home." As soon as Andy had finished saying his, he wished he had not made it sound quite such a cowardly thing to have done.
"I don't blame you. I wish I could have run away. And we've got to deal with those pictures." Dan was referring to the photographs Jess took of him wearing a young girl's party dress which Jess had sent out to her friends by e-mail.
"You'll have lots of girls on your side. Plus all the boys from youth club who are having their ears pierced tonight. Don't worry," reassured Amy. "It might not be so bad when you get school. We can tell them you were tricked into wearing the dress and made to show your panties. Everyone can see what that horrid Jess did to your poor ears. How are they this morning?"
"They feel OK, really. Not bad at all. They're still a bit scabby where Jess went at them but they're healing. The piercings are still quite itchy."
"Yeah, so are mine," agreed Andy.
They arrived at the bus stop and were pleased to see that Abigail and Alison were there already.
"Hi girls." Abigail greeted the two boys and girl.
"Abi, whose side are you on?" asked Amy. "You're supposed to be on the good side, protecting Dan and Andy."
"But we are, aren't we Ali?"
Alison nodded. "Yeah. Abi and I thought we should get Andy and Dan used to being called by their girly names. That way it won't be a problem at school. If they don't seem to mind being called Mandy and Danniella, people will get bored. Bit if they get cross, they'll get teased forever."
"I don't mind being called Danni but not Danniella, not at school," complained Dan.
"I can live with being called Mandy. At least it's better than being called Deirdre."
Abigail grinned. "Imagine your dad's office all calling him Deirdre. If only they knew."
Sam joined the group.
"Hi, Sally," greeted Abigail cheerfully.
"Don't start that again," said Sam grumpily.
"Are you getting your ears done tonight?" asked Amy.
"No I'm bloody not!"
"Oh but you must!" said Abigail, "How are you ever going to do us proud in the pageant. You're really letting the side down, isn't he Ali."
"Definitely. And your mum was so happy to see you as Sally. We'll have to ring her and make sure she makes you go."
"You really should, Sam," said Amy. "It only hurts for a second and you must admit Andy and Dan look fab. Especially Andy. Those two studs look really cool and sexy."
Sam gave an unimpressed grunt.
"When you say those two studs, we heard about Dan and Kirsty but what did the other stud get up to?" enquired Abigail teasingly.
Amy flushed crimson. "Abi! No! We never did anything like that! I meant the two studs in Andy's ears."
"Is that right?" asked Alison. "You look so guilty."
"But we didn't! Tell her Andy."
"No we didn't do anything like Dan and Kirsty. I went home with Amy and we just stopped for a bit on the porch."
"A bit of rumpy pumpy on the porch?" teased Abigail.
It was Andy's turn to blush. "No! Nothing like that. Only, you know, a kiss and a hug. Nothing, you know, dirty or anything."
Amy and Andy were saved from further embarrassment by the arrival of the bus.
The six friends were able to sit near each other on the bus. At the next stop, Jess was one of several school students to get on. She avoided eye contact with any of the six and went to the back of the bus. She was aware that she would be no match for six people single-handed.
As the bus made its stops on the way to school it became fuller. Several people looked at Dan and Andy but no-one said anything. Andy was increasingly apprehensive but there was no apparent reason. Was it just imagination or were people whispering about him. What was Jess plotting at the back of the bus?
Eventually the bus reached the school and pulled into the bus stand at the entrance to the school. An unusually large crowd of about 25 students had gathered. Andy was even more nervous than ever.
"Amy, this lot isn't because of those pictures, is it?" he asked anxiously.
"We'll find out in a minute," said Amy nervously.
Abigail and Alison made sure that Dan was between them when they got off the bus, while Amy had linked arms with Andy.
As Dan and Andy got off the bus there was a chorus of whistling and catcalls from the crowd. The two boys linked arms with the three girls and walked past, trying to look unconcerned.
"Those studs are pretty, girls,"
"Are you still wearing panties? Are they nice and frilly?"
"Ooh, I like your nail varnish, Mandy."
Andy suddenly realized that he had forgotten to remove the pale pink nail varnish that he had been wearing since Friday evening.
The crowd started to jostle and one or two boys flicked at Dan's and Andy's ears with their fingers.
"Leave them alone," yelled Abigail. "If you sad-oes want to get a girlfriend, you should try dressing as a girl."
"Only a lesbian would go out with a boy who's dressed as a girl," retorted a voice from the crowd.
"Dan's no lesbian. He got laid yesterday," responded Alison loudly.
Dan was hugely embarrassed and shouts of disbelief went up from the crowd.
"That's why Kirsty's not here," continued Abigail. "She's had to go to the doctor."
The realization dawned on the crowd that there Kirsty was indeed missing and there could be some truth in the story. The mood of the crowd, who were almost all virgins, switched instantly from regarding Dan as a little mincing sissy to a macho gigolo. It didn't stop the catcalls but their nature changed.
"You little sex dynamo, Dan."
"What's Kirsty like in the sack?
"Did you have an orgy with Mandy and Amy?"
Jess had been behind Andy, Dan and the girls when getting off the bus and had been pleased to see the reception that greeted them. She was much less pleased to see the initiative taken away.
"You're lying! That little sissy couldn't shag anything. I've seen her cock; it's like a little boy's."
"And I suppose you're an expert with cocks?" yelled Abigail at Jess.
The crowd hugely enjoyed this interplay and rounded on Jess.
"She's had more cocks in her than a chicken farm!" yelled a voice. Cheers and laughter went up from the crowd and Jess went bright red with embarrassment.
The bell went, calling the students to class and the crowd dispersed in good humour. This morning's entertainment had been a pleasant change from the mundane norm.
Jess made a point of waiting behind. She was seething, plotting her revenge.
The pictures of Danni and Mandy had been circulated. Between 15 and 20 people had got Jess's e-mail with the photos and several had printed them. They caused some amusement as they were passed around but most boys and girls just looked at them briefly and ignored them.
Kirsty arrived at school during morning break and found Abigail, Alison and Amy with Andy and Dan.
"How did it go?" asked Amy.
"I told the doctor what Dan and I did and how it all happened. Then she examined me and she said I wasn't a virgin any more. She said she thought there was a possibility that I could be pregnant. Apparently it's possible without actual penetration or without the man ejaculating. So she gave me some pills and told me to take the first one straight away. Then she gave me a lecture about sexually transmitted diseases and being careful and contraception."
"How do the pills work?" asked Alison. "Do they kill the foetus, like an abortion?"
"She told me they're not absolutely sure. They might make the egg reject sperm or they might work by preventing the fertilised egg attaching properly in the womb. I suppose if the egg rejected the sperm it wouldn't be an abortion. But if the egg was fertilised and couldn't attach, it would be an abortion. But I'm probably not pregnant anyway. More worryingly, the doctor said the pill doesn't always work. They reckon it's only about 80% effective."
"Oh my god. You could still get pregnant?" said Amy.
"Yes. It's not that likely but Dan could be an expectant dad. And I don't care about not being a virgin any more because I love Danni." Kirsty gave Dan a hug and kissed him on the lips.
The bell went again to call the students to class and they did not meet again until lunchtime.
When they met, Kirsty was in a bad mood.
"How the hell does everyone know why I went to the doctor this morning?" she wanted to know.
"Erm, well it could be something I said," confessed Alison.
"What did you say?"
Alison recounted the story of the crowd when they had arrived at the school.
"And I said that Dan got laid. I'm really sorry. It just came out. But the crowd stopped being nasty to Dan and turned on Jess."
"Thanks for telling everyone about my private life! How would you feel if I told a crowd of people about the most intimate details of your relationships?" Kirsty was really upset; she folded her arms and sulked.
"Kirsty," said Amy quietly, "it did just come out and lots of people knew from youth club anyway. Ali had to say it to stop people being really horrible to Dan and Andy."
"Yeah," agreed Dan, "my ears got hit two or three times. It really hurt. They're still sore from Saturday. We're really sorry you're upset." Dan gave Kirsty a consoling hug. "Sorry, mummy," he added quietly and gave her a peck on the cheek.
"We don't know for sure if Kirsty's pregnant yet, so why is Dan calling her mummy?" asked a perplexed Abigail.
"It's only a pet name," answered Amy quietly.
Eventually Kirsty cheered up and they chatted in their little group until the bell went to signify it was time to go to class. This was the class Andy had been dreading because he had to go to class with Lucy and Gemma and without any of his friends. Andy deliberately went to class few minutes late, reasoning that there would be less time for him to be picked on before the teacher arrived. He was fortunate to arrive just after the teacher and went quietly to his usual place. The lesson was double science and lasted for the whole of afternoon school. At the end Andy gathered his books together quickly hoping to get away before Lucy and Gemma could get near him. He succeeded in getting his books together and hurried out of the class, only to bump into Jess, who was waiting outside the classroom.
"Well, well, Sissy Mandy," sneered Jess. "I was wondering when I'd catch up with you. I thought it was very rude of you and your lesbian lover to run away like you did last night. I was going to give you a lesson. What was it about now..." Jess paused. Gemma and Lucy had emerged from the classroom and quietly put their bags down to leave their hands free. Jess continued, "ah yes, I remember now, periods. Hold her please girls." Gemma and Lucy each grabbed one of Andy's arms and Jess punched Andy in the stomach as hard as she could. Andy doubled over with pain and gasped for breath.
"Period pain is very painful, isn't it," said Jess. "And you still need to get rid of that nasty thing between your legs if you want to be a girl. You know, there." Jess pointed to Andy's groin. Lucy and Gemma continued to hold Andy's arms and Jess punched him hard in the groin. Andy fell to the floor, clutching his groin and adopting a foetal position. He had tears in his eyes.
Andy was saved by the teacher coming out of the classroom; the three bullying girls innocently walked off as if nothing had happened.
It took Andy several minutes to recover. He had to hurry to the bus stop to meet the others to catch the bus to Nutstead. Jess was at the bus stop but ignored Andy and his friends.
"Hi Andy," said Amy. "Are you OK? You look a bit pale."
"Yeah, I'm fine now. Jess was waiting for me after science and Lucy and Gemma held my arms while she punched me."
"Oh, poor Andy. She's a cow, isn't she? Never mind you're safe now." Amy gave Andy a reassuring hug, then Andy described the attack to Amy.
On the bus journey home they discussed the ear piercing planned for later that evening.
"I wonder how many boys will actually turn up for it," said Andy. "Sam wasn't very keen this morning."
"No," agreed Amy, "but I reckon if his mum knew about it, she'd be sure to make sure he went. She was really keen when she saw him as Sally yesterday."
"That's true. Did I tell you that mum is making Deirdre go as well?"
"No! That's brilliant!"
"Deirdre doesn't think so, She was quite cross about it yesterday. She doesn't know how to explain it to the people in her office."
"Lots of blokes have them now. It will be a lot less difficult than you and Danni explaining why you were dressed as girls. Now if someone e-mailed photos of Deirdre to her work and explained it was really your dad, that would take some explaining."
Andy laughed at the thought. "That's true. I don't think I'll suggest it though."
"Shall we go to Tracey's to see who's getting their piercings?" suggested Amy.
"Yeah, that's a good idea." Andy turned to Dan, who was with Kirsty in the seat behind Andy and Amy.
"Hey Dan, me and Amy are going to Tracey's to see who's getting piercings. Are you and Kirsty coming?"
"Yeah, sounds good. My dad said he was going to get his ears pierced as well.
"Yeah, so's mine. What are you wearing?"
Kirsty had a fit of giggles. Amy looked round and Dan and Andy looked at Kirsty trying to work out what she was laughing at.
"You two really are a pair of girls. What are you wearing. Honestly."
Andy looked embarrassed. "I only meant that I'll be dressed as Mandy, so I wondered if it was going to be Danni or Dan."
"Oh you've just got to be Danni, hasn't he Kirsty?" said Amy enthusiastically.
"Definitely. Everyone at youth club knows you as Danni, so you've no reason not to."
"Oh OK but I'd better check with my dad first. He's going to see me in the village dressed as a girl and it might be a bit difficult if someone he knows sees us. Can you come back to my house and check, then you can help me get ready," said Dan to Kirsty.
Across the aisle of the bus, Sam heard the conversation and wondered gloomily when he would get his friends back. This girly pageant nonsense was being taken much too seriously for his liking
The bus eventually reached Nutstead and Dan and Kirsty got off together at their usual stop. So did Jess, who saw that Dan and Kirsty were both heading to Dan's house together; Kirsty's house was in a different direction from the bus stop. Jess decided to leave attacking Dan or Kirsty until she could get either one alone.
Dan unlocked his front door.
"Hi mum, I'm home," he called.
"Hullo dear," said Linda. If anything, her London accent was even stronger than her husband's. "Hullo Kirsty, come in love. D'you want a cup of tea?"
"Yes please, Mrs Smith."
"Call me Linda, love."
"OK Linda, love," replied Kirsty with a friendly grin.
"Now, now, don't be cheeky," replied Linda returning the grin. She went to the kitchen to put the kettle on. Dan followed her.
"Mum, we were wondering if I could go out tonight but with me dressing as Danni. D'you think that would OK with dad?"
"I can't see why it wouldn't."
"I thought I'd change here then go round to Kirsty's, so she can change and get me ready. I can wear the skirt I had yesterday can't I?"
"I don't know about that. A girl shouldn't wear the same thing two days running, should she Kirsty?"
"Definitely not. If you come round to my house I've got some things that you can have, Danni. You can wear that skirt just to go to my house in."
The kettle boiled and Linda poured the hot water into the pot.
"You go and change, Danni. And make sure you have a shower." Dan went upstairs.
"We can't have her smelling like a boy, not when she's dressed up all nice, can we Kirsty."
"No we can't. You seem different today Linda. Is everything OK?"
"Well I hope it's a change for the better. I'm trying to knock the drink on the head. It's been getting silly. D'you know I was doing a bottle or two of vodka every day?"
"That's a lot."
"Yeah. It weren't doing me no good, that's for sure. But when Danni said he'd be a daughter for me yesterday, well that was so sweet, it got me thinking. I thought that poor little love, he'd do anything for his mum, bless him. And all I'm doing is getting pissed up, excuse my French, getting drunk, and not being a proper mum for him."
Linda paused to pour out three mugs of tea.
"Milk and sugar?"
"Milk please and one sugar, thank you."
"What d'you think of Dan dressing as a girl, Kirsty?"
"I love it; he's so sweet and he's really discovering girls in a totally different way." Kirsty paused briefly, recalling the totally different way in which she had been discovered, then continued. "He's also finding things about himself. And Mandy's helping too."
"Yeah it's amazing how them two, Danni and Mandy, look so like girls. They even act like them. It's like a switch goes on. I'm dressed as a girl, so I'm going to sit this way, or walk that way. It's terrific how they do it. If you didn't know they was really boys, you'd never guess. It must be a problem for you if you go to the pictures and fancy a bit of a cuddle or something."
"We haven't been to the pictures yet but you're right, it would be a problem. Jess keeps calling Mandy and Amy lesbians."
"Yeah well that Jess is a bloody menace. You know my Bill went round to her house and had a word?" Kirsty nodded. "He come back and he was spitting with rage. She was right cheeky to him. If her dad hadn't been there, he'd have belted her one."
Danni came downstairs, wearing the wig, the skirt she wore the previous day and a bra which she bought on Saturday when she was in the mall with Jess.
"Mum, I can't find that T. I had it yesterday. Have you seen it?"
"Yes, Danni. I've seen it and I'm washing it."
"What can I wear then? I haven't got a top."
"Girls. Who'd have 'em? Never got a thing to wear, eh Kirsty." Linda winked at Kirsty. "I went shopping today and I got some bits for my new daughter. They're in them bags in the front room."
"Great. Thanks mum." Danni dashed into the front room.
"You go on, Kirsty. She'll need another girl to help her. Don't forget her tea."
"Thanks Linda." Kirsty picked up two mugs and followed Danni.
Danni was rummaging through the bags. There was a packet of girl's panties, in plain cotton, quite unlike the ornate items that Danni had purchased on Saturday under duress from Jess, a packet of 3 plain bras, size 30b, a pale blue denim mini skirt with a tailored waist then flaring into ruffles at the hem, a couple of girl's Ts and two halter neck tops. There was also some female deodorant.
Danni left the underwear on that she had already selected, slipped out of the skirt she was wearing and put on the denim one, sprayed some deodorant under each arm and she was ready.
"Honestly Danni, no girl gets ready that quick," remonstrated Kirsty.
"I haven't got my shoes on yet."
"No, but you've only got one pair. It's not going to take you long to chose which ones to wear. Let's do your eyes and give you a bit of lippy to make you look a bit more girly."
Kirsty got her make-up from out of her school bag and gave Danni some eye-shadow and blusher, then she gave him her pale pink lipstick, which Danni applied carefully.
Linda came into the front room. "Is my favourite daughter going to give her old mum a hug then?"
Danni stood up. For all that Danni was only 5 feet 2 inches, he was still a couple of inches taller than his rather plump mother.
"I love you mum," said Danni, as she hugged her mum and gave her a peck on the cheek.
"You get along now and I'll see you later. Bye Kirsty."
"Bye Linda, thanks for the tea."
"Bye mum."
They left Danni's house and walked briskly back past the bus stop, across the main road and down the side street which led to Kirsty's house.
Neither of Kirsty's parents had arrived back from work yet. They both worked in offices and did not finish until 5:30, so they would not normally arrive home until just before six o'clock and quite often her dad worked a bit later. Kirsty went upstairs to change out of her school uniform, while Danni watched TV downstairs.
In just a few minutes Kirsty was ready, she left a note for her mother and the two girls left to walk round to Tracey's shop.
They arrived at the shop just after 5:30 and the first customer for the evening piercing session was Danni's dad, who had just finished work. He had chosen studs with small dark blue crystals.
"Hullo Danni, hullo Kirsty," he greeted them. "Them piercings wasn't bad really. I thought if girls had 'em, you wouldn't hardly feel anything. But it made me jump a bit. Never mind, it's done now. How blokes have someone stick one through their todger or their bollocks." He shook his head. "You wouldn't catch me doing that."
"I like those studs, Bill," said Kirsty. "They're a lovely colour."
"I thought so. It's a bit different. And blue for a boy, you know. I couldn't have a girly pink; I wouldn't get away with it, not like young Danni." He put his muscular arm round his daughter's shoulder and gave her a hug.
"I'd best get on," said Bill. "I need go and have a wash and have my dinner. I'll see you later."
A few minutes later, quite a crowd approached, including Mandy and Amy, Abigail and Alison, and Sam and Sam's mother. All seemed in good spirits, with the exception of Sam. Sam was not happy and he was walking rather stiffly instead of slouching as usual. Mandy was wearing a white tiered skirt with a pink T and low heeled sandals, Amy had chosen a cargo mini skirt, pale yellow T and yellow trainers,
Sam and his mother walked into Tracey's shop while the others chatted outside.
"How did you get Sam down here?" Kirsty asked Alison and Abigail
"We couldn't have done it without his Mum, she's been brilliant," said Abigail.
"Yeah," agreed Alison, "and she's got him a corset and he's got to go on a crash diet."
"She's got a size 10 dress for Sally for the pageant and Sam has got to slim into it."
"Poor Sam," said Amy, "his jeans are a 36 inch waist, so he's going to have to lose 10 inches off his waist in 5 weeks. He can't possibly do that, can he?"
"He's got it to lose," said Mandy, a little unkindly.
"It's worse than that though," said Abigail. "You know when we put that bra on him yesterday and it was too small?" Mandy nodded. "It looked as though he had quite large boobs? Well, the corset is so tight, it's forcing a lot of excess fat up and of course it's made for a woman. So the excess fat is sitting in the bit where boobs would go."
"Oh, poor Sam," said Amy again, "he could end up with a girl's waist and boobs."
"I'm not complaining," said Alison, "we'll have a better chance in the contest, won't we Abi?"
"That's right; we've got no chance with Mandy and Danni being full-time girls unless we get a miracle."
"We've got Sam's mum. She can be our miracle worker."
"I wish Sam would enjoy being Sally," said Mandy. "He's just so determined he doesn't want to. I'm loving every minute, especially when I'm with Amy."
"Aww, that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard." Amy planted a big kiss on Mandy's lips.
"Slow down girls," said Abigail. "I know you're not - but you know what that looks like."
"I don't care. I love Mandy."
"I love you too, Amy." Mandy held Amy's face gently in her hands and gave her a lingering kiss full on her lips. There was a screech of rubber as a passing car swerved, the driver having been distracted by seeing the two pretty blonde, mini-skirt wearing, teenagers kissing sensually.
"Control yourselves for goodness sake, you'll cause an accident," said Alison with a smile. Mandy and Amy stopped kissing and looked lovingly at each other, holding hands.
"What Sam needs is a girlfriend," suggested Danni.
"I'm not volunteering," said Abigail hastily.
"Me neither," agreed Alison.
Sam emerged sporting a crystal stud in each ear. He looked on the verge of tears.
"They look nice Sam," said Amy.
"They bloody hurt and I didn't bloody want them."
"Oh but they look so cool," said Kirsty.
Sam's mother came out from Tracey's shop.
"Hello girls,"
"Hello Janet,"
"Hi Mrs Norris"
"Sam, would you like to stay and play with your friends and be back home by 8:30?"
"Yeah, Ok mum. Bye."
"Sam," said Amy, "we were wondering what we could do to help you try and enjoy being a girl."
"I'm a boy. I like being a boy. I want my friends who are boys to be boys and stop being girls."
"Girls can have fun too, Sam," said Kirsty.
"Your idea of fun is shopping. Clothes shopping, for god's sake!"
"Well it is fun if you do it the way girls do," said Mandy. Sam looked at her incredulously.
"So you think I should dress as a girl and go to buy dresses with a bunch of girls?"
"Why not?" said Danni. "Mandy enjoyed it on Saturday. I wasn't really up for it because of what Jess did to me but I'd like to go along with you."
"Go Danni!" said Abigail.
"Yeah, we'd love you to come with us," said Alison.
"But I only like shopping for CDs and PC games. If I need clothes, my mum gets them. But now she's buying me dresses and women's underwear and I'm on a bloody diet. It's not fair." Sam's lip quivered and he was very close to tears.
Amy put a comforting arm round Sam. "Come on Sam, let's go to the park."
Amy linked arms with Sam and Mandy and Abigail linked her arm in Sam's other arm and the group made their way over the village green to the small fenced area where there were swings and children's play equipment. They sat on one of the seats.
"Is that corset really tight Sam? I can feel it under your T-shirt," asked Amy.
Sam looked round carefully to make sure no-one was watching, then lifted his T-shirt to show the girls, who gathered around him, shielding from view. The white satin corset reduced his waist by about 3 inches but excess flesh was pushed upwards over the top of the corset, filling the cups. The laces cut into the flesh round Sam's back.
"Isn't that painful?" asked Danni.
"No, uncomfortable but not painful. It took a bit of getting used to. I can't take deep breaths and I can't eat much when I'm wearing it. Not that I'm allowed to eat much. Mum has got some of those slimmers' milk shakes and that's my dinner, a milk shake. And I've got five weeks of this hell." Sam finally broke down and started crying.
All four genuine girls hugged Sam.
"Come on Sam," said Abigail. "I'm sorry we haven't been very nice to you so far. Me and Ali are going to be really nice to you from now on, aren't we Ali."
"Definitely. No more joking; we'll treat you as our best friend. You're going to need a lot of T L C."
"What's that?"
"Tender loving care. You're going to need a lot of it. Crash diets are no fun. All you can think about is chocolate and ice cream."
"Don't remind me. I can't have any sweets or chocolate until the pageant."
"Oh that's so cruel," said Abigail. "No girl can survive without chocolate when she's upset. You poor thing, Sam." Abigail planted a big kiss on Sam's cheek.
"Abi, what we need to do is lots of pampering for Sam," said Alison. "Nothing particularly girly until he's ready, perhaps a manicure and a pedicure. Maybe wash his hair and condition it for him, and maybe a facial."
"Ali, you're a genius. That would get Sam to understand what being a girl is really about. And your mum would let us do it at your house, won't she Sam?"
"Yeah, I should think so."
"Shall we start now, Abi?"
"No let's leave it till tomorrow. Would that be alright with you Sam?"
"Yeah, I suppose so."
"Ok Ali, we'll get some things and give Sam the pampering of a lifetime."
"What are you going to do?" asked Mandy.
"Well the manicure and the pedicure. But the other bits are going to be a surprise for Sam. And you've got such on head-start in the competition, we're not giving you any hints, are we Ali?"
"No way, José."
"You know, Danni," said Kirsty quietly. "Being pampered is really nice but part of the secret of being a girl is to enjoy pampering a friend and letting her pamper you. We'll have to get together for some nice pampering each other. Would you like to do that?"
"Yeah, sounds good to me."
Amy overheard what Kirsty had said to Danni. "Kirsty, it would be even more fun if there were four of us, all pampering each other."
"That's a thought. We'll have to do a day of that at half-term."
"Shall we go back to see what's happening at Tracey's" suggested Mandy.
They wandered out of the playground and across the park back to Tracey's shop.
As they were approaching, Mandy saw her mother's car.
"What's mum doing there?" she wondered aloud.
"It must be Deirdre," said Alison, who was walking with an arm linked with one of Sam's. Sam's other arm was linked with Alison.
"Oh brilliant," said Amy. "Deirdre's going for it."
"She wasn't very keen yesterday," said Mandy. "Mum must be really in charge now."
"With three girls in the house, your poor old dad's got no chance now, Mandy," said Abigail.
"I wonder if he's only getting ear-studs, or something a bit more adventurous," said Amy.
"What, like nipples?" suggested Abigail.
At that moment Mandy's dad, dressed in his city suit, emerged followed by Jane and Karen.
"Hi dad, let's see them then."
"Hallo Mandy, old chap. Hallo girls. Well I've been perforated. What do think?"
"They look fab, Deir, er Mr Jacobs. I love that blood red colour."
"Thank you Amy. Yes, I think I quite like them too. I thought the red would be a little different. And they're fairly small, so I shouldn't have too much trouble from the chaps at work. I mentioned it to a couple of the girls at work but they thought I was being silly even mentioning it."
"You'll have to go to work as Deirdre," suggested Abigail cheekily, "that would stir them up a bit."
"Yes, I imagine it would. Unfortunately I would become a victim of the full force of the office dress code Gestapo. Mind you, with all this equal opportunities nonsense, they probably wouldn't be able to make much of a case. But really, I'm a bit too old fashioned for that sort of thing."
"But you look fab in a dress."
"It's very nice of you to say so, Amy. I'm afraid I'll never look as good as Mandy or Danni, though. Or Sam - I see they haven't coerced you into wearing a dress this evening."
"No," grunted Sam shyly. He kept quiet about his corset.
"Never mind, I expect they'll get their claws into you soon enough!"
"Oh, we will," said Alison, and Abigail nodded her assent.
"Splendid. Well have fun you lot. My chariot and my dinner awaits."
"And so does Deirdre's outfit," reminded Jane.
"Ah yes. Thank you for reminding me."
"It'll be a blouse and a skirt tonight. It's not the weekend any more," said Abigail.
"Yes, I imagine it will. Cheerio."
Richard got into the back of the Jacobs family car, Karen drove and Jane sat alongside so she could supervise the learner driver. The car was given plenty of revs by Karen as she gently eased the clutch in and drove back to the Jacobs' home.
The next two boys to come for the piercing evening were Dave and Chris, the big 17 year old rugby players.
"Hallo girls," greeted Dave cheerfully. "When I let those girls railroad us into this nonsense I didn't realize we would get full-time girls from the boys. Still you two look really good."
"Thanks Dave," said Mandy a little nervously. Andy had always been a bit wary of Dave because he was just so big and could be quite boisterous. In truth Dave was really a gentle giant. He enjoyed a physical battle but only if it was evenly matched.
"Yeah, don't go letting any guys get the hots for you," warned Chris. "You two really are convincing."
"They'll be OK," said Abigail. "We just had to pull Amy and Mandy apart. They nearly caused an accident, they were getting so passionate."
"Don't be horrible, Abi. Mandy said something really sweet and I just gave her a little kiss."
"Full-on snog, I'd call it."
"Well I can't help it. If Mandy is here and Andy isn't, then I love Mandy."
"Yeah, well, Mandy is a pretty convincing looking girl, Amy," said Chris diplomatically. "You will look like lesbians. And you know how turned on blokes get watching lesbians."
Amy blushed scarlet.
"Why is that?" asked Kirsty.
"Dunno really. What do you reckon Dave?"
"I think a lot of blokes fancy the idea of a threesome with two girls. Or maybe they fancy themselves so much they think they could cure them. For some blokes it's just a fantasy thing. Or maybe they really want to be a girl and still have sex with a girl."
"I never knew you were such an expert on lesbians."
"Oh, I keep abreast of things, you know. Get it - abreast?" Dave gesticulated the shape of generously sized breasts. Chris shook his head and the others looked puzzled.
"Come on then, Dave. Let's do it."
The two large young men went into Tracey's shop. Both had to duck their heads to go through the low, old-fashioned cottage-style front door.
Some more boys were approaching the shop. They were a year older than the Mandy and her friends. Gavin and Rob were tall good-looking boys who Abigail and Alison regarded as highly suitable boyfriend material.
"Hi Gav, Hi Rob," greeted Abigail cheerfully.
"Hi Abi, you lot are here checking out the opposition then?" greeted Rob.
"Yeah, we're supporting the cause," replied Alison.
"Do you know what sort of studs, you'd like?" asked Abigail.
"Not really. What sort of studs would you like?" replied Gavin, with heavy double entendre.
"Oooh, sexy ones with big willies," flirted Abigail shamelessly.
"And big wallets," added Alison.
"Oh well, that lets me out. I haven't got a big wallet," said Gavin.
"He's got an enormous willy though!" added Rob.
"Has he really? How do you know?" asked Abigail. "Have you been sneaking a peek in the little boys' room?"
Rob looked embarrassed. "Erm well, he's told me about it."
"I haven't!"
"Shall we get this piercing done," said Rob, changing the subject and trying to save face.
Gavin and Rob went into the shop.
"You have no shame, do you Abi?" said Kirsty.
"Well it's alright for you. You've got a gorgeous sexy boyfriend."
Kirsty was quiet and looked at Danni and smiled happily. "Sorry, Abi."
"You'll just have to make Sam sexy," suggested Danni to Abigail.
Dave and Chris emerged, heads bowed, then stood to their full height as they reached the open air. Dave's studs were large, clear crystal.
Amy was impressed. "Ooh, look at those big studs. They look simply fab."
Abigail. Alison and Kirsty all giggled hysterically, Amy looked embarrassed and the others smiled in a perplexed way, wondering what the joke was.
"What's the matter with them?" wondered Chris. "They're only studs. You must have seen loads today."
The giggling carried on.
"They don't look that daft do they?" Dave sounded concerned.
"No, they're great," said Mandy.
"They're brilliant," said Amy. "Don't mind them; they're having a funny turn." Amy waved in the direction of the hysterical girls.
Kirsty composed herself with an effort. "Sorry Dave. It's just what Amy said and what we were saying before you came out of the shop. Your studs are really cool and I like yours too Chris. Thanks for helping Danni and Mandy like this."
"It's no problem," replied Chris, "I'd been thinking about getting my ears done for a while. "Next step is a tattoo. I don't suppose my folks will be too happy about that, though. That will have to wait till I go to university."
A short while later Gavin and Rob emerged. Both had opted for small clear crystal studs.
Tracy appeared in the doorway of her shop. She called to Mandy and her friends.
"Hey Andy, would you bring your friends in here for a minute, please."
Sam and the girls obediently trooped into the small front room which Tracey used as a salon.
"I wanted to thank you for all the business you've put my way today," she said.
"That's OK," said Mandy, "I thought you were doing the piercings for free."
"Yes the piercings were free, for the boys. But the studs weren't. I make quite a bit on those. And I pierced two Dads and they weren't part of the deal, so they paid for the piercings as well as their studs. So I wanted to say a big thank-you to Andy."
"She's Mandy when she's dressed as a girl," pointed out Amy.
"Oh yes, of course. And what is the name of the other pretty girl I haven't met before?"
"This is Danniella," introduced Kirsty, "but she prefers to be called Danni."
"You look very nice Danni. Isn't that wig hot?"
"It is, but it's OK," replied Danni. "It's a bit itchy, as well."
"Do you want to take it off so I can see if I can do something with your hair?"
Danni removed the wig.
"Hmm, it is a bit short and boy-like and it probably won't grow another inch before the contest. Do you think you'd like to go on dressing as a girl even after the contest?"
"Erm, not really. I haven't thought about it."
"You could," said Kirsty. "You're convincing enough."
"And so could you, Mandy," said Amy.
"Well, on the Friday before the contest, I'll give both of you a free hair session as a thank you for all the business you've brought in. I would say the Saturday but that's my busiest day. In the meantime, would you like to take some of these?" Tracey indicated a box containing wrist bangles, which was on her counter.
The girls fell on the box and slipped several on Danni's and Mandy's wrists. Mandy liked the way they felt. Every time she moved her wrists they seemed to want to fall off her hands and she found herself making very feminine gestures with a loose wrist to keep them on. It felt very feminine and sexy.
Sam was left out again. He had not welcomed the thought that Danni and Mandy were thinking of volunteering to spend more time than necessary as girls.
"God, you're getting even more girly. You look a complete poof waving your arms about like that," he complained.
"Would you like to try some bangles on?" asked Tracey kindly. "I take it your going in for the competition as well."
"Yes, he is," Abigail answered for Sam, "but he's not very keen."
"So we thought Sam needed to be pampered," added Alison, "so he can find out the good part of being a girl before we do anything too drastic, like leg waxing or tattooing on eye-liner."
"That's permanent! You can't do that!"
"They're just teasing," said Tracey, "but I can do your hair the same as Mandy's, with highlights and conditioner. That'll be a nice bit of pampering for you and you will still look like a boy. What do you say?"
"Oh OK, then."
"Yay," chorused Abigail and Alison.
"Five o'clock tomorrow then, Sam?" Sam nodded and Tracey noted the name in her appointments book.
"That's how Mandy got started, with a nice hair-do," said Amy, "and look at her now."
"That's what I'm worried about." Sam looked at his friend in her flirty, tiered white mini-skirt, extravagantly waving her arms about with disconcertingly limp wrists.
"Have you found something you like girls?" asked Tracey. "Only I want to lock up now. I've had along and busy day."
"OK, bye Tracey and thanks for the bangles."
The girls and Sam left Tracey's and went to chat in the park for an hour or so, until it started to get dark. Mandy, Amy, Sam, Alison and Abigail went one way and Danni and Kirsty went the other. Kirsty walked back to Danni's house with Danni. She felt that Danni was the more vulnerable dressed the way she was.
When they arrived back at Danni's, Linda and Bill were pleased to see their daughter return safely. Linda was still sober; her first full day without vodka since Dan was born.
Bill walked Amy home.
They did not notice Jess lurking in an alley between two houses at the top of the little road that led to Kirsty's house. Jess saw Kirsty go to her home with Bill, then she quietly returned to her own home. She would have to wait for a better opportunity.
