The Ideal Housewife                by: Paul G Jutras

It was a starlight evening for Sheriff Paul and school teacher Sarah to sit on Sarah’s front porch swing and snuggle up. As Paul moved away shyly Sarah looked up with a look of concern on her face. "What’s wrong?" Sarah asked confused.

"Sarah, you’re a wonderful woman and all, but I asked you out tonight to tell you something." Paul said, unable to make eye contact. "I’m looking for a more ideal woman who is only interested in marriage and children. Not a career."

"Oh really," Sarah suddenly said coldly. "I think I know someone who can help you with that."

"Who do you mean?" Paul asked, sure he knew everyone in the town of Aprilberry. She took him by the hand and led Paul to the patrol car where she drove them to the edge of town. There was a old shack with a picket fence surrounding it.

"The Benson’s have rented their place out to this old man who some say practice magic." Sarah said as they walked into the place. The living room looked like it was converted into some sort of shop with bondage items and adult sex toys everywhere.

"Do you have a permit to sell this stuff?’ Paul asked an old man with a long white beard and pointy hat. That was when his eyes caught sight of the reflection of a brunette in a red strapless, backless dress. As he watched his body and uniformed changed into an copy of the mirror image. Paula was still engrossed in her own image to notice Sarah paying the man for use of the magic mirror.

"Shall we go, Paula?" Sarah asked as Paula got a good look at her new self.

"What happened to my uniform... to me?" Paula asked confused.

"What uniform?" Sarah giggled. "You’re not a career woman you know."

"Who’s Sheriff then?" Paula asked.

"Your former deputy, Betty of course." Sarah drove them back into town and to the cafe. Feeling sick to her stomach, Paula only had a small salad, when she saw a handsome dark hair man in a deputy uniform. Paula never realized how handsome her second deputy had been.

The two had a whirlwind courtship and Paula was excited to be marring Victor. Like a puppet or someone in a hypnotic trance, Paula made it to the alter for the I do’s and off to the big city for the honeymoon.

It wasn’t until Paula return to their new family cottage that she was able to speak for herself. Although she knew her mind was slowly being changed when Sarah came over for tea. "Please, Sarah. I called The Benson house to find had returned while I was on my honeymoon. I can’t stop myself from keeping this house a showcase and what’s worst I can’t bring myself to go on the pill. My mind keep thinking how wonderful a baby would be. You have to find the man to change me back."

"Sorry, girlfriend." Sarah giggled. "You’re your ideal housewife now. You’d better get use to it from now on."
