Her So Called New Life

by

Paul G. Jutras

Roger was dressed in a purple silk chiffon dress with feminine flounced hem, V neck and A- line shape. His polish toes in a pair of stacked, cork-soled mules. That was when the phone rang.

"Hello?" Roger asked in a chipper tone.

"Hi honey, how are things?" His mother said at the other end. "Is everything okay?"

"Are you asking that because you missed me or you're worried that as soon as you and dad left on your second honeymoon, I'd buy a gun and paint the walls with my own blood?"

"What?" His mom said in stunned silenced.

"You've been telling me to kill myself from the time I asked you to buy me a dress for my eighth birthday to my asking for a Barbie theme for my last birthday. It's because of you that I've gotten so worked up during the last two years that I nearly dropped dead of a stress related heart attack. I'm now telling you that I don't care anymore. You can either put your bigotry aside and love me for who I am, or you can watch me kill myself."

"You bought yourself a gun?" His mother asked.

"Not today I haven't." Roger said as he twisted the phone cord with his pink polished fingers. "I just bought a nice outfit that would look good on me in a coffin if I were to kill myself. Even if I don't buy a gun, the house has plenty of carving knifes to cut my throat with."

That was when a nearly blinding light shined out of the air. A winged angel floated down and landed before Roger. The female angel was young and sweet looking with her halo and wings. "You have suffered many years." She said calmly. "You've earn a chance at happiness."

"What do I do?" Roger asked.

"Picture in your mind of what you wish you looked like." The angel said.

Roger couldn't think of anything other than the looks of his two female cousins Jane and Amy. Especially what they wore at the last Christmas party. Jane had a red frilly dress with suntan hose and clogs while Amy had on a blue tee shirt, jean white nylon footies and sandals. There were things in both of them that he liked and wish he had for himself. He then found the room growing slightly and he was reduced in height.

When he looked at himself in the mirror he had Jane's hair and nose and Amy's eyes and mouth. He also noticed he had half a pair of jeans ending in a white footie on under a red dress while the other leg coated in suntan hose. He liked the looks of both Jane and Amy's legs and feet so the angel gave Roger a duplicate of each. The two sides of the outfit he had on was as if the two Christmas outfits had been sewed together.

"Don't worry, Robin." The angel said as she gave Roger a new name. "You parents don't remember your recent phone call and nobody even remembers you were male. You will keep your old memories and personality but will be filled with the memories of your new female life after I go. Enjoy your life dear because life is worth living for."

As Robin watch the angel left, her head was filled with new and wonderful memories. She also decided noticed that since that Christmas she was thinking of was from ten years ago she was also ten years young and would save her new mix-match outfit for a Halloween party sometime. She ran to a closet full of almost nothing but feminine skirts and dresses to change and start her life anew.

THE END
