Her So Called Life

by

Paul G. Sutras

"So Jason, what would you like for your eighth birthday?" Amy asked as she pushed the shopping cart dressed in a white blouse, gray blazer and matching skirt with black stockings and three inch heels.

"A dress," replied Jason.

"What?" Amy asked her son as she stopped the buggy quickly. She watched Jason run down the isle of birthday decorations.

"And these," Jason continued as he put Barbie image paper plates, party hats, napkins and table cloth in the shopping buggy.

"Jason, what are you saying?" Amy asked as she crouched down and saw the look in her son eyes that made him appear to almost be in tears. She let out a sigh. Since her husband died of cancer, she found it hard to say no to her son. She found it especially when he was convincingly serious about what he wanted. "What dress do you want?"

"That one," He pointed to a white one with puffy sleeves that would make any little girl look like a princess when on.

"I think it might fit." Amy said with a smile. "You want to get some shoes to go with it?"

Seeing what the store workers use to measure one's foot on a bench, Amy measured her son foot and tried on several pairs of sizes around what she measured until one fit. "I think the Mary Jane shoes will look good with the dress, dear."

The next day was his birthday and the dinning room was covered in pink streamers and Barbie and balloons that read "IT'S A GIRL" on it. "What to you think of the name Janice?"

"I like it," Jason said as he sat in his new dress and shoes while his legs were covered in white tights. Amy nodded and would get the paper works to legally change Jason's name as soon as possible.

"You're not going to change your mind about being my daughter instead of my son?" Amy asked.

"It's who I've always believed I was." Jason said. "I was just afraid of dad to come out and say so before. How disappointed he'd be in me."

"I got another surprise for you." Amy said as Jason finished his strawberry frosted cake that made it appear as pink as the rest of the birthday display and opened a present that included his first purse. It was blue leather and looked almost a match to his mother's black one when sitting on the floor beside it. He also got a new doll house, several Barbie dolls and some pretty skirts and blouses.

"What mom?" Jason asked as his red polished fingers gripped a glass of chocolate milk and finished it.

"Let's go for a drive and you'll see." Amy said with a smile as they got into the family station wagon and drove to the mall's furniture store. As they went into the store, Amy led Jason over to the bedroom department. "I want you to pick out a new bedroom set, dear."

"Really," Jason's heart flipped in his chest with excitement. He had hoped to replace his Lone Ranger desk lamp and western theme bed spread and curtain set with something more feminine.

"Go on dear." Amy said as Jason gave his mother a loving hug. She thought to herself: That's my little angel alright."

Jason looked at a Unicorn bed room set as well as a Barbie and Disney Princess one. What she settled for was a simple pink bed room set. He knew that it would go with a white lace trim canopied bed. Once chosen, Amy made arrangement to have it delivered while he was in school on Monday.

Jason sold a lot of his old shirts, shorts and pants to the local thrift shop on the way back from the furniture store. With the money he could buy some shorts and pants from the girls department that he would prefer to have.

"Look at the sissy," Greg gigged and pointed when Jason showed up at school the next day in a blue blouse with framed pictures of teddy bears on it, a blue knee length skirt and sandals that showed off his polished toes. Greg gave Jason a shove to his back and stood over him laughing. "The girly girl even has a purse slung on his shoulder.

"Oh quit it," Francine said in a puffy shoulder red dress with polka dot design, brown hose and wooden clog.

"His father died recently of a cancer." Lori said in a pink top, skirt and sandals. "Let him deal with his feelings in his own way."

Over time, the teasing and laughing stopped. Those who went to school with Janice soon forgot that Jason ever existed. When Janice reached her 13th birthday, her biggest present was a trip to the doctors. She got a hormone prescription that made Janice wonder if her figure would look as cute as her mother's when she's an adult. "I want you to take one pill when you get up and another before you go to bed." Dr. Nancy Lake said. "Is there anything you want to ask me?"

"How large will I get?" Janice asked.

"Normally the same size or a size smaller than your mother," replied Dr. Lake. "Since you're mom is a C cup you'll look awful cute as a B cup most likely."

"That sounds great," Janice said with a smile. "I wouldn't want any larger than a C or anything smaller than a B."

"Don't worry dear." Amy said to her little princess. "When you turn 18 we'll get the rest of your manhood removed. "You've done so good in therapy and living as a woman, it shouldn't be a problem what so ever."

THE END
