A Better Solution Than Divorce
by Jennifer Allison
Richard
This baby I am carrying has already started causing his mother trouble.
It has found a nice soft spot to take it easy, my bladder. I call it and because I have decided not find out it if it a boy or a girl until its birth.
As for me, When Mother Nature calls. I can't tell it to wait until I get a free moment. It is now or I will have an accident.
After the third time of running down a patient or a nurse. A sign was hung over my receptionist's desk in jest.

Do not get the way of Doc Mac when he needs to get to the bathroom
Within a week of my family moving to Tolerance everyone in town started calling me Doc Mac.
Amanda returned to work four months after the birth of her son. Just in time, just when I needed to cut down on my patient load.
Our appointments were setup to let both of us to have time by ourselves. For me it is time to get off my feet and take it easy. Amanda uses this time to breast feed her baby.
The sight of Amanda breast feeding makes all the trouble I am going through worth while. Just knowing that in a few months I will be breast feeding my own bundle of joy.
Helen
My husband is driving me crazy.
When I was pregnant I knew I had some strange cravings. But those of husband's are just one very small step away from ridiculous.
I can just see what Mr. Offerman the grocery must think when I have open up his store late at night so I get something that Richard wanted.
As for me, I had one of greatest dreams fulfill just yesterday.
Let me explain what happen and how it came about.
I was a tomboy I as grew up. There was one more dream this tomboy wanted but wasn't allowed to do. Play football. When I couldn't play I buried myself in the idea of one day coaching football.
Even before the switch I applied for three head coaching vacancies in the city we just moved from. I was never asked to come for a second appointment.
So when Tolerance High School's football coach decided retire. I applied for the job. The school board offered me the job before I could stand up after my interview.
One of the main points that won me the job was.
When the chairman of the school board asked, "Will you still coach our team if you and your husband switch back?"
"Yes I will, I have always wanted to coach football all of my life," I replied.
You see Richard and I had already talked it over. Even if we switch back we still plan on it living and working in Tolerance. It helps a lot when Dean and Jennifer expressed that neither one of them wanted to move back to the big city.
Dr. Knox
I usually make at least one visit to Tolerance a month for about a week. Sometimes more often depending if someone has ask me to come out. I try to meet with everyone in my program and check out personally on how they are doing.
On this visit the visit patients on my schedule were Dean and Jennifer. They asked for an appointment without their parents present.
When they had made this appointment I knew what they wanted to ask me.
Dean got right to the point. "Jennifer and I don't want to switch back."
"I want to stay in Dean's body, too," Jennifer said before I could get a word in.
From my past experiences and looking over the records of both Dean and Jennifer I knew this was what they wanted.
Dean wanted to a girl down deep so much. He took his frustration of being born a boy on a girl, Allison Barker. Who he felt should have been born a boy not him.
Jennifer had been a tomboy in her early years. When she started showing signs of the woman she was meant to be. Helen McLean turn tomboyish daughter into a young lady.
"Have you told your parents?" I asked.
"We mentioned it," replied Dean.
"We said something to that effect when announced that he was pregnant," answered Jennifer. "I don't if they were even listening. They haven't asked us about what we said."
"The two of you are still minors and they will have given their permission," I told them. I then ask, "So what is it that you would like me to do?"
Both Dean and Jennifer replied almost in unison. "Come with us when we tell our folks."
"I will be having dinner at your house tomorrow we can ask them then," I informed them.
"There has been a change in your schedule," Jennifer told me. "Dean and I talk our parents into switching your dinner reservation. You are coming to our house. Someone must have forgotten to tell you."
"Then I guess I will see you later today," I said.
Both of them left before my next appointment arrived.
This was good. I didn't want Dean and my next appointment to meet.
It was Phil Driefort.
You see when I accept a family into my program I accept every member of the family. Phillip also asked for an appointment to talk about the problems he has been having and other issues that he has been facing.
Phil Driefort
After a few minutes of small talk I got to the point.
"Doc, is there something wrong with me?" I asked. "Almost all of the kids with parents in your program have wanted to try it. Me, I never gave it second thought. Now my best friend, who I thought would be the same as I am, wants to stay in his sister's body."
"Phillip you are like most normal young men," Dr. Knox told me. "In the studies I have read or heard about. Over 50% of the men asked have never even thought of wearing women's clothing."
"My father and Dean fall in the group that do?" I asked
"Dean does, reading his history I realized Dean is one those boys that should have been born a girl. I feel if he hadn't been given a chance to join my program. Something would have happen that would have cause Dean to do something that would have made him wish he was never born."
"I am confused." I then asked, "Explain what you mean?"
"I feel Dean could have done three things that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. 1 - Kill themselves. 2 - Start doing drugs. I don't mean just weed. 3- Do something that could have sent him to prison for rest of his life."
"Why hasn't anyone seen this before?" I wanted to know.
"The study of sexual identification has been going on for a very long time. Just recently we have realized that a lot of teenage suicides are cause by the sexual identification problems."
"How do you suggest I handle that my best friend wants to be his sister?" I asked.
"The thing we all can do, Support his decision." she told me. "It won't be an easy decision either way he decides."
"Is that why my father joined your program?" another question I needed an answer too.
"Before my program was brought to your dad. He never once considered even trying on a pair of panties."
"But that doesn't answer my question, Why?"
"For love of his family and marriage," Dr Knox told me. "He loves his wife and you children so much he would do anything to keep his family together."
"So I don't have to worry one day wanting to be a girl?"
"But will my dad end up like Dr. McLean?" I asked.
"No! A definitive no, I usually can tell if a couple will want to stay on my program longer or on it permanently. In your folks case I am willing to bet the house on them wanting to switch back when the time comes."
"Thank You. That takes a big weight off my mind."
Helen
I knew my kids were up to something.
Even though I was in my husband's body I still had womanly instincts. You readers know the ones I am talking about. The ones you all claimed your mother had while you were growing up, Like not being able to get away with anything.
I knew before I was informed that the dinner with Dr. Knox had been changed and the change was at the request of Dean and Jennifer.
To make things easier on my husband I started preparing the meals for my family after the start of my husband's third trimester. He is about as big as I was when I went into labor. In less of a month he will start his maternity leave.
At supper that night we did the normal small talk. Like how are you doing? Is there is anything problems? Etc, etc, etc.
It was after supper we got down to business.
Dean stood up and without any preliminary action blurted out. "Jennifer and I don’t want to switch back!!!!!"
"I want to stay Dean for the rest of life," announced Jennifer.
My husband and I just sat there in utter shock. For a solid minute there was utter silence.
I then broke the silence with. "Are you sure?"
Jennifer said, "Yes."
Dean just nodded.
The moment had come. The one Richard and I had known and talk about. Ever since the kids switch we watch as Dean and Jennifer became more like their new persona every day.
"It isn't because I decided to have the baby before your mother and switched back is it?" asked Richard.
"No it isn't dad," Dean replied. "Jennifer and I discussed the possibility of not switching back long before you announced the pregnancy."
Jennifer then decided to put Dr. Knox on the spot. "Even Dr. Knox agrees this is best for both of us."
"Jennifer, don't put word into my mouth," said Hillary. "I said that both you and Dean showed signs that you both have a sexual identity problem."
"So what is your expert opinion?" I asked.
"In my opinion," Dr. Knox then paused before saying. "They should stay the way they are now."
"They want to stay the way are now. But what happens in six months they decide they want to change back?" asked Richard. "You know as well I as do. A teenager's mind will change back so many times during their teenage years. A calculator couldn't count the changes."
"I won't change my mind," announced Dean.
"Neither will I," said Jennifer.
"Right now they have been on my program for six and a half months. Normally an adult I am willing to switch back after two years. For a teenager my limit is one year."
"Why the different time frames?" asked Jennifer.
"During the teenage years a teenager will learn most about themselves for their adult life. Even as we speak it will be difficult for the two of to switch back. After a year it will be just to much. As for an adult they have learn almost they need to know."
"So where does that leave us?" I needed to know.
"I think we all would like to know the answer to that question," said Richard.
"The decision doesn't have to be made right this moment. We have five and a half month before then. Dean and Jennifer have made their desires known," Hillary told us. "What I mean is. Is treat Dean and Jennifer as you treat them as Jennifer and Dean"
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"What I mean is. For the last six months you have been treating Dean as if he is still Dean but in Jennifer's body and so forth. Now I want you to treat Dean and Jennifer just like you would have if you never heard of my program. This way they will learn what the rest of their teenage life will like. So when it comes time for their final decision. They will know exactly what they are getting into."
Richard
"Now that we got the kids problem out in the open," I said. "Helen and I would like to tell you some news." I then paused for a moment. "Helen and I have decided to live and work in Tolerance."
"The two of you want to stay switched too?" Hillary asked.
"We haven't decided that question yet," replied Helen.
"I found out since we moved out here that I hated working in a hospital in the city. In the big city hospital is seem like I was on an assembly line. Work on a patient on a line when I am finish there would another, then another. Here in Tolerance I have seen and treated so many different problems. I feel it should a requirement by the AMA that all doctors work as county doctor before they decide on a field of medicine to work in.
"Besides, both and Helen and I feel it was the best decision we ever made was getting away from the city for us and the kids. Just for health reason alone."
"I agree with my husband. It also has made a dream of my mine come true," announced Helen. Who had then explained her dream about coaching football! "The school board didn't care if I was a man or a woman. They wanted me to be their coach."
"Even if you and Richard switched back?" asked Hillary.
"That was one of the questions I was asked," replied Helen. "They wanted to know if I would coach after we switched back. They also wanted to know what are plans are after the baby is born. I told them that we plan on staying in Tolerance regardless of our decision."
